I’ve had some interest in my project that is good! My shoulder is doing better still hurts but I deal with it. The doc will not let me sail yet, someday.
Still fairing out the starboard half of the hull but getting there. I got a new account for discount parts so that will help. The first of the year I’m going LLC and changing the name to TMS Composites, a bit more professional but I’ll still be the “The Man Shed” and just alias the new name. So both names should hit the website and the website will start to change after the first of the year.
TMS-20 I’ll post of few pictures. Right now I’ve got the hull upside down. I hope that is not bad karma and spilling out the mojo. I found it easier to long board the bottom of the hull with it upside down. I’m going to get it close then when the port side is done match them up. The mold is flipped and I’ve done some faring on the mold so the next side should take less bog. I’m concerned about the weight I’ve added but it is not enough to worry about. I need to get it as fair as I can to make a mold off of it (if I have to). I’d still rather do the CNC plug but have not found any takers yet. I’ve secured several sheets of Divinycell foam but I’m one sheet short right now. Seems to be a shortage of foam and the plant is closed until after the first of the year. I’m going to glue the strips with Gorilla Glue it is suppose to sand easier according to the “Farrier Boys”.
I spoke to Kurt Hughes about Carbon connecting beams so I have a plan for the building the beams. I’m going to make a mold for the beams off of the mast section I have that should be a fun project. I’ve also decided to make a mold for the AMA’s so I’ll make one plug and not have to worry about the weight. Hind site is always 20/20. I’m looking forward to 2010 and hope to launch the TMS-20 in the New Year.
Best Wishes!

Wouldn't it be easier to fair the exterior of the hull after it's joined with the other half and with the structural reinforcement inside? You could be fairing twist into it - no?
I have several temp bulkheads in the hull and it is very stiff with the carbon and foam. Most of the fairing is with it laying flat on a table. Yes for the final fairing and I'm just about done for now until I build the other half.

When you lift the hull either by the ends or side it does not flex. It is still light enough that my wife and I can easily lift it over our heads, even with the temp wood bulkheads and my bad shoulder. The whole key to all of the faring is that the outer skin will be thin compared to a usual lay-up of all E-glass. The outer skin will be 2 layers of 198 gram (6.9oz) carbon and one layer of 4 oz E-glass all 90 degree unidirectional cloth, except for the stress points they will have 4 layers of carbon.
This is the same lay-up inside except the stress points have 6 layers of carbon.....problem reading the plans and a little extra does not hurt. What I tried to show here is the fine entry and shape of the underwater profile, not much wetted surface. If I kept the same profile above the waterline it would have been a real skinny boat and a tight fit. I added the flare to increase the cabin space and as a result it should throw the spray to the side. The water line is about 2/3 of the way to the flare. The boat looks wider then the wetted surface profile when it is right side up. That was my main objective in the modification to the plans: More room without an increase of wetted surface.
The pics show the volume of the hull above the DWL and temp bulkheads.

So Craig and I are having a few holiday spirits and up walks a horse. She usually does not come in the shed but Craig is known to carry Carrots and it must have looked like we were having fun. If I can only teach her to sand.

Actually, you can! Just spray salt or maybe carrot juice on the hull? Cows used to lick the paint off my car while I was driving a tractor in OK- supposedly to get salt/minerals?? Mebbe it only works w/ OK cows but you could try? ;-)
Too funny but no cows. Just cats, dog and a horse. Promissed my wife she could have a horse if we moved in the country...it is a trade off for the boats.
