Resurrecting a thread...

I like the idea of the Tatoo. I think it could benefit from a little bit bigger main (especially with a weight of 170kg) and a boom. A better alternative to the H16? I bet it's at least more durable.

Hobie Europe's "Tatoo" is now the Hobie US "T2" (cute name morph). Note the spin pole.
They have them in the store in Tackle Shack in Pinellas Park near Tampa, FL.

It would be interesting to see some head to head competition between a T2 and one of Rick's heated up Waves.

Or against a standard H16.

It says the T2 weighs 388 with 178 sq. ft. sail area, how does that compare to the H16?

Also, looks like single trap only? My guess is the H16 is going to be quicker upwind, but with the spinnaker the T2 would pass them downwind.

So...who's going to be the first to hot rod one and add a bigger, self tacking jib?

;^)

Here's the H16 specs. from the Hobie website:

Hobie 16
Complete Specs & Features

Specifications
Crew: 1-4
Length: 16' 7" / 5.04 m
Beam: 7' 11" / 2.41 m
Capacity: 800 lbs / 362 kg
Weight: 320 lbs / 145 kg
Draft w/ Rudder Up: 10" / .25 m
Mast Length: 26' 6" / 8.07 m
Total Sail Area: 218 sq ft / 20 sq m

From that it looks like the H16 is 68lbs. lighter and has 40sq.ft. more sail area, so it should be faster upwind.

Compare the Hobie Tatoo with the Nacra Playcat as discussed on the main Forum under "New Junior multihull - Playcat Mark 2". More photos there.

After some heavy R&D the new Playcat Mark2 is ready for the market.

Its an entry level boat for the jr sailing fleets and recreational/resort markets. Designed by Morelli and Melvin.

Rotomolded plastic. 320 lbs
More specs at www.nacra.ca

Starting at $5500 for the base boat with main only.
The base model has the original rudders.

The Sloop model is $7950 which includes a single trapeze, tiller extension and the new rudders.

The Sport model: add a spin kit for an additional $1700.
The next production run will be this winter with delivery early spring.

Just saw a T2 being put together at Sail Sand Point in Seattle today by Hobie Cats Northwest, for the Seattle Boat show. Boat looks very good, should be fun to sail.
