I have them too but I think they need to be covered with shroud adjuster covers after taping them. Someone who crewed for me once slid forward when we buried the bow and really scraped his leg pretty badly on the teeth of the stay master.
Good point - we put covers over ours to prevent this happening. The regular boots didn't fit so we slit them open and fitted them slit forwards, taping them up each time.
