I broke my thumb 2.5 weeks ago. Dr. used 2 pins to reset the fracture. The hand will be in a cast for about 6 weeks total. I understand that rehabilitation to regain mobility will be somewhat painful and take several weeks or months.

My question is, how long before I can sail again? I had planned on attending a F18 event about 15 days after the pins come out. The Dr. said I would not do any damage by sailing. If I could withstand the pain and if I had enough mobility to complete tasks I would be fine, but he didn't have a good idea of what sailing requires and couldn't tell me whether I would be up to it at that point.

Anybody have experience with how long it takes to get back to sailing after an injury like this? Maybe how difficult it is to sail with an injury to the thumb, like a sprain or something? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric
