Short synopsis of the race from our point of view.
Started, wind was light out of the NNW. Tide was probably close to max flow as we tried to get out, made for some problems for some boats, we made it right out and worked our way towards the gulf in the shallow water of the West side. Wind picked up shortly after rounding the sea buoy and was blowing ~15 out of the West.
I've not looked at the GPS tracks so times are approximate.
We beat for about an hour and a half up towards Navarre. We got ~10 miles from PCola beach and the wind DIED. After an hour and a half the breeze came back and we were on a close reach to the pass. We came in the pass at ~5, poped the kite and headed for home.
We made it through the Navarre bridge around 7 and on to the narrows we went. The breeze stayed pretty constant up till just after sunset but lightened as the evening went on. We rounded the #8 buoy at probably 10:15 and headed to #3.
Just after rounding #3 we were RIGHT on top of two boats that we thought we had lost. (6.0 express and the first I20) After a heated exchange with a passing motorboat a/b out lack of lights we all finished within 45 seconds or so of each other at 10:45. The next boat was an I20 at 12:30 and I don't know who/what after that.
Tough race but could have been worse!
The RC did a GREAT job and we had burgers waiting for us when we hit the beach and a great breakfast at FWYC the next morning.
