Thanks for all the advice so far - it has been interesting.
Last year I looked into this and found many of the popular insurers won't look at a boat that is amateur built which makes it hard.
Tudor and GIO will provide comprehensive (including racing) for $395 on a $15K ameteur built boat.
GIO will provide TPO (no racing) for $95
An interesting proposition to consider is that Tudor will provide coverage for trailer and hulls only (est value $6K????) for $230. This means the mast, sails, deck etc will not be covered. I put this to Tudor recently on the basis that the risk was in the trailer (if a road accident) and to the hulls in the event of a collision at sea (or road). This might be a lower cost way of getting racing and comprehensive coverage on the major risk components of the mossi.
Anyway ..... still considering options
