John Williams report on Facebook:
Exciting day on the water. First race, we set up for a port start, even though the line was starboard; we wanted to get right badly. With less than a minute to go, VEN decides to join us. PUR won the boat and tacked immediately, making us the meat in a Latin sandwich. Long trip to the right, and we got squeezed and then spat out the back. But we made some gains downwind and had a killer second bea...t to finish 3rd behind VEN and GUA. Next race, MORE excitement as the seabreeze arrived, and we went from no trap to solid double, spray flying in the space of about 30 seconds. Clocked so hard, though, we were abandoned. Next start found us getting pinched off by CAN. We tacked away for air, but were crestfallen to see the left side hit the breeze first! They were all hooked up and cruising while we slogged along with the half of the fleet that bet on the right side. We seemed to be getting our stride again, but a fatal error at the A pin found us capsized. DFL for USA. :-( We'll be back at them tomorrow; the throwout will come in and we are shaking off the error as I type this. The encouraging posts and emails mean the world to us. Thanks, and keep the flag flying!
