I have a carbon mast on my I20 and I love it. It is super-light when rigging/derigging the boat, and my back greatly appreciates this. They also reduce the pitching tendency of the boat a little, and make righting easier after a capsize.

I once dropped while raising the mast when the mast ball came off of the boat. There was no damage to the mast except for a small scratch at the mast head cap.

While aluminum is cheaper (maybe half the cost), in every other way carbon is more desirable.

Sail fast and have fun,
Alan Thompson
I20 - San Diego
