I crew on a Tornado with a conventional 9:1 + Swiftcord, untapered. It seems soft to me, as I could pull harder and sometimes have to move a lot of line. The skipper might feel different, as he only gets to use one hand to pull.

I helm on classic Tornado + spin with 7:1. This seems too hard upwind, but I only get to use one hand, as I rarely have expert crew to hand off to. It's very nice downwind though, as I like to play an arm's length of sheet to smooth out the puffs and lulls as I fly downwind.

For the record, the conventional rear-sheeting "8:1" cascade systems is really 9:1. (The cascade is 8:1, but leading the sheet from boom tip to traveller gives extra purchase.)
