Rumour cirquit had it is last weekend, that was before the Alter Event had started, that 3 boats were left.
If the boats hold up as they have done up till now then demand will go up and I expect these to get sold off quickly as well. I know some other crews are looking to sell of their F16's in favour of getting an Alter Cup boat.
Indeed, I just love that mainsail coloured as well.

Unconfirmed, but a good chance that two Blades will be there. One from Chatanooga (Olee/Joanna, new AC boat) and myself. CaptainKirt was there last year on a TheMightyHobie18. I'd like to see him bring his Taipan F16 this year.
How about it CaptainKirt?

what is the damage rep sheet ?
[Re: tshan]
#104643 04/28/0704:53 PM04/28/0704:53 PM
-1- One sheared off tiller extension bolt before the racing began. A freak part defect.
-2- One spinnaker pole bend because a tip support line came loose.
-3- One broken mast after the boat had capsized. Unclear what happened there exactly.
-4- One spreader arm poked a small hole through a jib. A sail tape repair.
-5- One trampoline sagging because it rear tension line worked itself loose. No actual damage.
That is what's on my mishap listing, am I missing something ?
After 4 days of heavy racing (13 races) in winds range from 14 to 20 knots with the only exception the friday morning race in 8 knots, I think this to be a very favourable rep sheet.
The only real damage was that mast breakage. The others are pretty negligible in cost and severity.
Note how there were no daggerboards breaking (somebody said 7 of those broke with the boat type used last year) no rudderboards broke or rudderstock failures. Remember that these daggerboards were new the Blade F16 ! I call that "first time right", thanks to www.catamaranparts.nl the designer and supplier of these.
And apparently you can really sit on the F16 bow and not break it !!??
So Tom how are your feelings now ?

Wouter,
Add to your list:
* Several Jib Halyards -- caused due to tightening the halyard before sheeting the main...thus sheeting the main in the 20kt winds put excessive line load on the halyard.
* One Daggerboard--this actually happened during the practice races. Likely cause was delamination as that board seemed to have a couple of bubbles.

The Jib halyard takes the load ?

I don't know the boat, but jib may be like mine. A zipper jib that has a pulley system. Wire halyard BUT if you don't sheet the main tight on beach BEFORE you tighten the jib halyard you stress them. I broke one on my Hobie 17 before I figured his out. So what was everyones impression of the Blade? I am looking at selling my 17 and getting one in 2008. Want a new boat I can race uni and then with grand daughter when she can. She is 13 about 110 lbs. I am 210-220 lbs.

Boats #4 and #5 are heading up to Annapolis (West River) thanks to competitors George and Susan. They will arrive tomorrow eve or Monday depending on George's level of back pain. We have a third coming but Kris was too late buying to get loaded on this trip plus three up might be a bit much. I'm finding a lot of good info here to get me started. Thanks guys. Ed

Feelings are great. VMI builds a great product and am gald the week went so well. That is a retail outlay of over $140,000 US for VMI (I assume, not a factual number). I think it will pay big dividends, as the boats looked and ran great. Tough weather, too.
The owners of these boats should be "foaming at the mouth", as they are indeeed awesome boats.
Will the owners of these gems please come forward? I know a couple (or three) to the Chesapeake, one to TN, one to TBack.....
PS: I should have said that I never doubted the builder, just the amount of the commitment. Matt is a true artisan and delivered a superb product for the Alter Cup. How about Stealth F16 for next year's Alter Cup? Seriously.

I think the Next Year's Alter Cup boat has already been chosen and it will be the Capricorn F18, which has a very similar hull shape to the Blade, and the same wing type mast. What would have been fun would be to have a few of those out there this wee, next to the Blades, for a F16 vs. F18 shoot out.

If you encounter any issues or weird boat behaviour then don't hesitate to contact us at the forum. The F16 design has a few points that are specific to the boat and mast that aren't really encounter on other designs. However, once you know the trick the issue is solved.
One such things it the amount of mainsheet tension. In a big blow it is counter intuitive to pull on the mainsheet but that is exactly what the rig wants. Beyond a certain point this flattens the whole sail, especially the top. With the right downhaul (alot) and mastrotation (pointing to the rearbeam) the boat calms down alot and becomes very controllable and actually also goes about 30 % faster.
It is just something you'll need to know that it is there. From that point onward you can find the optimal trim yourself. For the spinnaker there are tricks as well. You'll need about a season or even two to figure such things out.
And welcome to the club ! I wish you the best of enjoyment with the new boat.

The pictures are for Sale$$$ so don’t be surprised if you can’t download any pics until you pay. Not unlike at Disneyland when they take your picture going down the big slide and then try to sell it to you on your way to the exit as a souvenir..

Hi all,
just in case some of you guy's are like me and don't visit the catsailor general forum to often. Have a look at one hell of a growth spurt for F16 in the US.
Make sure you scroll through all the pages and check out some of the great photo's. Check attachment for a sample.

Not sure what boat is coming to TN yet..Hope our "elves" do a good job of picking one out. We will re-assemble it on Friday AM, get use to it in the PM and race Sat/Sun. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!! Wouter--May be asking lots of guestions-we are use to the H20. Which, by the way, rolled out of the drive Friday night to its new home in Dallas.

Sweet! Take pictures. Joanna your best bet is to ask those questions publicly. Us FL blade boys have been sailing the living co-hoots out of the boats. You will love every second of it.

Oh Yeah!! Everyone will get the ?????????'s We can't have to much advice...just wish you all were closer to help us tweek everything and sail against.
Only one way to resolve that. Move to FL! I am moving up to Clearwater in Sept, this means I am going to try to become a member at the Gulfport Yacht club. When I show up, there will be five F16s there and Terry Back is only a two hour drive away.
Fleet racing anyone?

Who knows?? May be in the next life.. BUT we will be at Slip to Ship if you all can come to that?
Can't make S2S, but Pensacola is about 1/2 way between Chattanooga and Cape Coral. I don't suppose that will be of much help to guys on the Chesapeake.
