I was sailing on a broad reach with the leeward board all the way down and the windward board all the way up. I was gaining and even ending up passing the same type of boat. The winds were about 5-8 knots.

At what speed should you pull up your daggerboards or should you ever pull them up?

thanks airborne

years ago, Wouter had some data on this.

Are you sure that was the only other variable? Did you pass him to windward?

Broad reach, no spin? Which boat?

In general, a broad reach would work well with the windward up, lee ward down, and trying to get the huoll in the air as in doing the wild thing.

If tight spin reaching in marginal conditions (going as high as possible with too much power), raise the leeward board 1/2 way and leave the windward fully down...it's magic.

Actually todd you were there when this was going on. It was about a month ago. My son and I was in the nacra 5.2(no spin), that was from dallas. As you passed both the 5.2s you told me to put the daggerboards all the way down. When I did this I didn't catch kris as fast as before. I am just wondering at different wind conditions what are some standard daggerboard settings.

thanks airborne

I pull the windward board almost all the way up when reaching or spin reaching. If the hull is in the air anyway, you don't need it. Half way in lighter winds is generally the way to go.
Ahoy from France!

This being a N5.2 on a broad reach my vote would be for both boards up.
