The date of our move to California is firming up. I'm cutting the price of the Capricorn on Rick's classified page to $13,500 - cheapest 2006 IN THE WORLD.

Why would you move from Florida to California? Did you do something wrong? (Relax Cali. guys, I'm picking on John) And really, whats up with the plants, tell 'em its your kids!

Whooooyeh, Clayton. I ain't found a decent Cajun joint out there yet. I asked for mudbugs, you'da thought I was from the moon. There's some good places to eat, sure; but I'm gonna miss Boudreaux and the crawfish boils.

Supposedly you pass through some agricultural checkpoint in Arizona - no plants or produce allowed through.

Califonia has agriculture inspection stations on the border at all major highways. The ones in this neck of the woods haven't been maned since the budget crisis a few years back, though.

They'd always be sure to ask me where was the last place I had the boat in the water. Maybe they're afraid of some exotic species of algae sticking to the hulls or something.

We have had a nasty we call rock snot introduced to NZ from the States with our jet boat racing. It is slowly working its way up the country and infesting our rivers. The boats now all have to be waterblasted after each race but I think the horse has already bolted.
Why are you having rock snot as house plants?

Wadoo Bob’s Cajun Joint – I did a city search and could find the address it’s on Pico Blvd in Culver City, and a great place – the owner/chef is a real character, couldn’t understand a word he said, but he had fun talking. In Long Beach, there is Uncle Al’s Fish Market, haven’t eaten there, and if you make it up to the Wine and Roses in August, you’ll need to go to The Palace in Santa Barbara – great place.

Excellent! Thanks for the tips!

The Palace - is that the place that serves bear and elk? I ate there a couple of times...

John, with your hair and flowery shirts, you will fit right in, but you will need a surf board if you don't have one already, and practice starting and ending every sentence with "Dude". Like this; "Dude, where are all the catamarans racing around here, Dude?" If you are driving out, be sure to pick up a Polly Shore stand up CD for the drive, by the time you arrive in Cali, you'll be all set!

DUDE! You sure nailed that one Dude! Born on Mather AFB, now closed of course. Before I turned 6 yrs. old I lived in Cali, Texas, Alaska, Texas again, and New Hampshire...then I turned 6. But after 30 years in the Ice Box, I never got used to the cold water in July, so I'm now in Florida, but I do love to visit California when I can. It's totaly rad...even gnarly sometimes, Dude.

Dude - got the board, but I grew up on the surf in Cocoa. I think I need a long board from all the movies and stuff I've seen about California. Plus, I don't know if I want to get harshed by some hui like Flea or Turtle who don't want a haoli on their break.

Any hao, not looking forward to the move, but the house shopping has been fun. We found a cool place on Claremont, but I don't know if it will still be available once we get our place in Jax sold. Stuff starting to move quickly now, so all the hypotheticals are falling away from what's really going to happen - which is nice. Wife worries less that way.

Now I just need to find some steady crew.

Jake we would love to get you out here (Left Coast) for a regatta or two.

John I have lots of names that I can throw your way that would like to crew. They are in the heavier weight ranges so you will have to decide to get rid of the silly little sails and step up to the large sail plan.

There may be someone in Long Beach but there are a couple of guys interested who live nearer San Diego. We can usually get any skipper with a Formula 18 on the water at any regatta they would like to attend. You can contact me, Myrter, Key, or Miller for suggestions.

We had 10 Registrants this last weekend in San Diego. Not bad considering there are people sailing the wrong boat, in order to practice for the 16 North Americans and the Fiji Worlds. I am confident they will be back on the Formula 18s next year.

If you get tired of using Dude you can substitute it with Broa. It is just as obnoxious.

For surfing we have an area that is a, not very "locals" oriented, State Beach. Mostly a friendly group so you have little worry about your howlie status. Howlies are the Cali guys that go to Hawaii. I do not think you will be recognized as liking Cajun food just from your looks.

Later,
Dan

One regatta with Hauser and you move to California.
He is infectious.
