Fully fitted Matt ?

Or are the spinnaker, snuffer and jib package extra ?

yes I think so..

Also the fx1 price you quoted I think was without a spinnaker..

In the Northwest we now have two FXs sailing at regattas.
And we have hopes for a couple more as soon as Hobie gets more in stock in the US.
I think if this class at Hobie ragattas is to develope it takes a group to get them in each area and start the class off. It took a few years for the Tiger class to get off the ground here.

We are just getting this class off the ground here. And for us Hobie regatta sailors this is a good single hand option.
I have gone from the H17 to the Tiger and now to the FX. This boat has all the things I like from both the boats that I heve most recently had.
Awsome spinaker runs down wind, and the spin is managable.
And that single hand sailing up wind that was a real thrill on the H17.

If there were an FX event in conjuntion with one of the other National Events it would give a chance of building interest.

I'm sure there are a bunch of boats that are beter in all the different areas that the FX can do, but the FX seems to do well enough in each thing.

I don't think one design racing at Hobie regattas was ever about having highest performance boats, but having something we all can sail and be relatively competative.

Could be - I was just yakking with the dealer to get an idea of what they cost while I was in the shop. He wouldn't know that I expect wings and the spinny as part of the package for racing. (Reference my comment on "dealer support". He's a Flying Scot sailor.)

So add another $1500 - $2000.

I know: decisions, decisions. I'm having the same angst over buying a new singlehanded boat. There just aren't that many options in our area.

Matt...
For whatever its worth... there will be one F16 in the Detroit area soon and VWM, although not local, provides very good support.

Well,

Overhere the FX-one is always quoted as a bare 1-sail singlehander where the named upgrades are extra's. Your quote assuming no "extra's" sounds compliant with the EU pricing.

For what it is worth here is the info I have. It is the last dependable quote, meaning in actual writing, that I have. It is from sept 2004 by Proust Sailing in France (= low shipping costs).

Hobie FX-one 11.982 Euro (= 16295 US$ incl. EU taxes which becomes : 13.693 US$ without EU taxes)

Extra's

Jib kit rollerfurling and selftacking : 1.495 Euro's
Spi kit (NO SNUFFER) : 1.434 Euro's
Spi kit with snuffer : 1.909 Euro's
Sport wings (bare tubes) : 605 Euro's
Comfort wings : 1.726 Euro's

Conversion rate Euro : US$ = 1 : 1.36

But I think the spi with snuffer quote is too high. One can do that significantly cheaper by going to a 3rd party supplier.

There are already 2 Blade F16's up there (Illinois), will make 3 with the one you have just named. Then include a few more in upstate New York, Ohio and Toronto (Taipans and Blades). But all these are just as far away from MN as the Michigan I-17's. So what is the point ?

Lets back to the topic. I think Sogncab has a particular secondhand FX-one in mind. It is basically a good boat, try to get a test ride and see for yourself !

Its an 06'. A dude bought it in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Got it home, changed his mind and the dealer wouldn't return it. Which I think he was right in doing so. So its being sold on consignment. It's never touched water. Comes with a jib, but no self tacker. Also has double traps on it. I'd have to buy a spin and snuffer, and a self tacking jib would be sweet. I also planned on the comfort wings. They look like a good trade off. Its good to hear from wouter that the 2-up works well. Thats one of the things I dislike about the H14, its a submarine with 2 people on it. I really would like to try out a F16, but I don't want to be racing strictly portsmouth. A-cat, same thing, but with out the capacity for crew.

As far as the local fleet goes for one design it is non-existant at the moment, but a few others are talking about getting one and as I said before someone has to go first.

I've been sailing a H16 for the last 3 years, and while not a technical boat, I still screw up tuning on a regular basis. So I'm going to be pretty much F'd on something more high tech.

So far there hasn't been too many negative things and mostly positive, about the boat its self, which is what I was trying to root out with this post.

Why the exclusivity?

Me too. I'm very happy with the boat I have, but I'm always glad to hear you views.

OK, so I was back out at the dealer again yesterday -

The out the door price, including spin, snuffer and sport wings would be a little over $15K. This is exclusive of Michigan sales tax (6% - $900) and I would have to assemble the boat myself (I'd want to anyway).

Thanks Matt,

Just to make sure I get this straight. (I do archieve these things);

Hobie FX-one (1-up) ready to sail

mainsail + spinnaker/snuffer (but no jib package)
including sportwings (bend bare tubes)
but EXCLUDING michigan sales tax (6%) and assembling the boat.

USD 15.000+ ('+' meaning "just over")

Incl. the 6% sales tax would make it 15.900+ USD which can be made off at 16.000 USD

It appears a new FX-one is the highest priced alternative out of the earlier named spinnaker singlehanders.

You are correct, but it's unlikely I would pay that much for one. I know of at least one dealer in another state (no sales tax until I register it in Michigan - which could be never) that has been sitting on a demo boat for several years and is most anxious to get it out of inventory.

Well.... I put in an offer for the New/used FX1. Hopefully they'll take it. It may have bordered on insulting, but it's been sitting for a year with no takers. If they aren't ready to deal then I'll stick with the H16 for a while longer.

I am new again to this forum but I've been trying to decide which singlehander too. I'll throw an extra rub in. Which is best for a heavyweight? At 6'6" and 240, I officially void the warranty on the NACRA A2! So, the choices are narrowed to Nacra-17, FX-1 or F16. I have only sailed on the I-17 and it sailed beautifully. I assume they are all fast so which is the least sensitive (i.e. most competitive) with a heavy single? The racing will be all Portsmouth. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
