I used to have lots of anon users on 1design forums until I added the entire thing to the robots.txt file. So I too believe many of them are bots.

I prefer not to have the search engines crawl 1design though, as its not fit to be read by anyone :0

Now, how do you discern between the real bots and "bots" like that Dave_D character. Are there people actually getting paid for spamming forums now, outside China and India (english and tactics looks too US-english for a low-wage country)?

Long ago this site used to have five (and even less) visitors each time I checked.
If more visits do not influence the number of robot visits (anyone knows?), I guess no more than 2 or 3 bots would be visiting the site at any time.

Can we just go with some bots visit and people visit too/ I often visited before I signed up. I am not a bot.......what are you doing Dave?
