Posts: 833 St. Louis, MO, | Thanks for posting the results. It looks like when the fast boats can't finish in the daylight the results become a little more valid for everyone. It must be interesting trying to get that RC30 down through that channel in the dark.
To view it I saved the attachment as a gif file from my browser. I then used Explorer to pull it up using Microsoft photo editor. This way I could resize it to fit the screen better. I think if you scan it with a smaller pixel number the picture would be a smaller size.
Congratulations to all that finished what looks like a grueling race.

Unregistered | Thanks for posting those results as even though I was in the race, that's the first time that I had seen them. Just a quick question though ... Not to seem picky, but it seems that the recorded finish time may be a bit off, say ... by exactly an hour. Anyone else notice a difference in the time they thought they finished in and the time recorded for them?

Dean, that was my first thought ... so I double checked with my crew (who had kept a running stopwatch from the start), another boat that finished shortly after we did, and a few email time stamps that I had sent shortly after I got back to shore. It was definitely off one hour for my elapsed time. Am I worried about it? nah, not really. Just curious if I was missing something in the scoring/timing/whatever.

Unregistered | Yes, we think you're right. At first we thought that maybe they forgot to add or subtract an hour because of the staggered start. But we were in the very first start at 7am. So we have been sitting here trying to figure out if we were off by an hour because our watches are set for EDT, or if we really did it in 20:49? I hope somebody figures it out! | | | Re: RTI Results pg.1 (maybe!) #11166 10/01/02 05:55 PM 10/01/02 05:55 PM |

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I think that the person calling some of the times (probably all of them) was from the east coast. Perhaps their watch was still on eastern .... but that would mean your recorded finish was an hour earlier than you really did - is that the case?

Unregistered | Nope, the recorded finish was an hour longer than the actual time we took. We had a recorded time of 20:47:02 whereas I think it should have been 19:47:02 (by my own watch I had called it 19 hours and 47 minutes even, I'll give them the 2 extra seconds without much complaint ). If the person recording times had a watch on that was set to Eastern time, it would make the elapsed time seem to be one hour longer than the correct elapsed time. Hypothetically, if we finished at 4 am central and started at 8am, we would have had an elapsed time of 20 hours. If the person recording the time was on eastern time, they would record 5am, therefore an elapsed time of 21 hours it would seem. Seeing as I don't have a clue who was recording the times (I didn't even see them on the dock), I wouldn't know if this was a possibilty or not. I don't think it makes much difference either way, just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. | | | Re: RTI Results pg.1 (maybe!) #11168 10/02/02 07:28 AM 10/02/02 07:28 AM |

WILL SOMEONE involved in scoring please address this?
I was 2 secs corrected time behind someone, that may make the difference.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | we started at 8 with the other spin boats and got the boat packed away for the night, took showers in time to just miss the bar closing (I promised to buy my crew a shot if we made it in time)...That put us in at about 1:20am or - our time is recorded properly at 17:22 minutes so the person I was refering too was recording them properly.

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Todd - I missed hooking up with you at RTI...I looked for you a couple of times but time was short getting everything setup. Perhaps next time. What is the meaning of your post here "bump"?

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I put some limited photos (sorry...no action shots) of RTI on my website as well as a table of the results. I didn't double check them after I typed them in so let me know if anyone sees any mistakes. Go to the photo gallery for the pictures and race detail (in the RTI picture index) for the results. http://webpages.charter.net/jakekohl/

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | To all those that have concerns about the accuracy of the RTI results please privately email me (or privately message me here on the board) and give me the following information. I will put this information together to see if there is some sort of pattern and communicate with the race organizers to see if we can identify/correct any existing problem. I am sure that the race organizers will be very open to correcting any inaccuracies that might have occured.
- Time zone you reside in
- Boat type and sail number
- The reason you feel that your record is not accurate (supported by any facts you have)

Posts: 2,844 42.904444 N; 88.008586 W | Jake,
enlighten me please. Why would the time zone you reside in make any difference to the elapsed time kept by the Race Comm?

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | It probably will not factor in at all. However, I want the information to rule out any unlikely miscalculation on the sailors part by comparing their watch wrong. i.e.) if sailors from two different time zones noticed the same difference it would decisively rule out errors relative to their watches and GPS being set to the wrong time zone.
