Gang:

While trying to sell my Hobie 17 parked it in an old Academy parking lot. No problem for two days. WELL I went by there today, no boat. Found a sign on one of the light poles to towing company. $215.80 PLUS $50 processing fee. I don't get SSDI check till the 19th. Will cost me about $500 time it is all over.

Damm *))(*)*()(*)^&^*^% rip off!!!!!!

Don't really want to, just need the money. Things are real tight now.

Sadly, does not work that way.... ask me about my car, a mall parking lot and the Worrell....

Ok, don't ask, but you get the picture.

I live a long way out of town. My nearest city is an hour and a bit away and it is a small one.
It is $1 an hour in a building and if you write in you get off the first ticket each year!
My friends from Auckland where I moved from don't know why I am happy here!
The last time I parked in Auckland I was outside and it was $18 for an hour and five minutes.
I don't know why they want to live there!

Ok, here is a little loophole I found. If it is not parked in a fire zone, the person who called the tow truck is liable for the bill. You can get a court order to get your boat back but the towing company will try to sue you. Past experience from my reckless teenage years.

Lee:

So how do I do this. Called League City PD and they said if it was private property they can do it. Let me know in email doug062050 at yahoo dot com or call me 832-425-0284. Don't really have the $300-500 it is going to cost me to get it back.

Doug

Seems like the owner of the property would have called you and told you the boat could not be parked there. Did you see any signs saying no parking . Sounds like the owner is a jerk.

Didn't see the sign when I parked it,think they put it up later, BUT there is no way to prove, NO they didn't call anyone. Just towed everything in site. Trucks, cars, boat. The had a field day!!! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I parked my car at a gas station parking lot for 4 hours one night. I had verbal permission from a different attendant that it was ok for me to park there whenever I needed, provided it wasn't overnight. I got back to the station to find my car missing. Talked to the current attendant, the tow driver and the sheriff.

The sheriff "enlightened" me that even though there are no signs posted and it is a business open to the public, it's still private property and the owner need only to call the sheriff and complain about an abandoned vehicle to have it towed at the owners expense.

The sheriff did actually leave a message on my home phone to let me know that it was going to be towed and that I had about 30 minutes to move it. It was a nice gesture, but ineffective since I was car-pooling and obviously not home at the time.

Needless to say, I paid the $180 to get my car back and stopped back at the gas station to give the attendant an ear full and inform her that her action cost them a very regular customer along with anyone else I could influence to never stop there again.

Live and learn.

sorry Doug....you are in the wrong unless you had permission from the owner of the property to park your boat there. So, quit whinning, pay the fines, apologize to the owners and learn a lesson.

In this country the attendant is the agent of the owner, acting with the power of the owner and that verbal agreement would be a binding contract. It would most definitley be the station owners problem and the car owner would be adjuged his money back at the owners expense. This would be done in what we call the small claims court or disputes tribunal and the petitioner would bring the station owner into the court. The station owner has to defend himself and cannot hire or ask anyone else to attend with or for him.
Appologise be buggered, the station owner is a horses butt.

Don't mind paying what is fair, BUT $215.80 PLUS $50 processing fee and $20 a day in storage, seems a little outrageous. Just a ripoff to make money to pay for a lot that has a lot of empty rental space.
