Yes, plate will be holding it all together as there will be a fiar bit of load from odd angles (this now may give away what theblock is for).

I'm disallowed to compete in this contest as I have such a board on my boat as well.

Pass a line though it with blocks on the trampoline to send it back to the sides so you can tension the line from the trapeze? Or simply for a shock cord to keep everything neat and tensioned on your tramp...

Hope; I have a seperate line tune for this. If you look at the line the rope follows, you cannot uncleat from the wire.

I would like a picture of this thing in action, because I really can't figure out what this thing is for. If you have a separate line to control the rotation, what is this for then? Is that an emergency release to be used only when you capsize? With the block linked to say the rudders so the mast rotating in the wind turns the rudders so the boat stays stable while you climb on it?

Or is it some clever arrangement of blocks to link the mast rotation to something else? I'm at a loss figuring out what you would want to link it to in one direction only however... Outhaul? Traveller? Jib traveller?

This system is to let the rotation off as for sailing down wind. It also allows it put back on again.

When the rotation goes back on, it will be in exactly the same place as it was on the last upwind leg.

Where does the board attach to?
What runs through the block?

I am interested in such system, but looking at the arrangement alone I cannot figure it out.

Gill has a neat mast rotation quick release system on his Blade. Similar idea, but mounted on the spanner. I'm thinking of doing something similar... Do you have any photos, Gill?

My Aus blade had the exact same system at Zandvoort, but its fixed to the boom. Its great for quick firing & quickly setting back to original position.

You can an extra cleat to make the rotation system adjustable & quick fire at the same time.

Hi Paul,

Attached you can find a picture of the system. Not a very good angle, but it should do. I will take a better picture this weekend (if we're going to sail).

Regards,
Gill

The board bolts thru the tramp (there is another one underneath.

I'll take some pics on Sunday.

I have fitted a turning pulley (with cleat) under my boom and then
instead of shackling to the rotation spanner i,ve tied a rope to that rotation pulley then back through the turning pulley .Then when you get to the top mark you simply uncleat the turning pulley (rotation out)When you get to the bottom mark Pull the rope back to the saddle where the rotation used to shackle to and your set

OK, set it up today, but DID not sail.

First pic showing the fine tune (from the wire) line (pink). Spi Downhaul (red) and the red/yellow course tune going aft:

[Linked Image]

second picture showing upwind sailing setup. Red/Yellow rope is cleated and the spanner is changed via the fine tune (see above).

Now below you can see that the Red/yellow rope is in tight and cleated; this rope then exits the cleat via an eye and then goes to a double ended block that has the Spi downhaul attached, it then is tied off on the other side of the trampoline:

[Linked Image]

Now loking at the 3rd pic, you round the windward mark and pull the red blob on the end of the rope, this uncleats the red/yellow rope and allows the rotation all the way out (but in the pic it is still on the tramp). Note that the double ended block is now down by the cleat.

[Linked Image]

You now get to the leeward mark and need to drop the kite, so you pull the downhaul (red rope) and in the process this pulls (via the double ended block) the red/yellow course tune back in. You are now back into upwind mode.

[Linked Image]

I'll be testing this in a couple of weeks time.

I am not too big of a fan of my mast rotation set up- seems like I am always scraping along it when I come in from the trap and then get to the new windward side to realize I pulled it out of the cleat. I can tighten it up again but then it is all on one side which makes it difficult to release on one side. But anyway...
this set up looks a little complicated and certainly seems to crowd the tramp. Interesting though.
Now that I look at it some more though... quite an ingenious set up. takes some slack out of the spin downhaul also?
