What is the address of the F16 website? I have previously used formula16.org, but it is now "Forbidden". Is it me?

You have the right address, site seems to be down for some reason.

Sorry for the delay in getting to this. I'm in NYC at the moment and yesterday the hotel internet connection broke, so I'm way behind.

The index page for the site got deleted, but I really don't understand how. I've now restored it from backups and am trying to figure out what happened.

I don't know whose responsibility it is but shouldn't there be a concluding remark on the Global Challenge 2007 right on top of the main page, possibly just below the announcement of the 2008 global challenge ? With a link to a summery of the event ?

The webpage and forums are our business cards to the world. If we are slacking on those then we are slacking on the image we are getting across to potential new class members / customers.

I would like to propose the GC takes action on this. And I would like to propose that the GC find a dedicated "content master" in addition to Paul being the technical webmaster.

Everybody, we have got to sort out these things properly.

As our website is based on Joomla, it should be possible for several people to add content? One "content-chieftain" and several sailors with itching pens? I know I would be happy to add/write stuff, but someone must act as editor so the material is approved and added in a meaningful way.

I can't speak for the GC but in the past we didn't have a final editor. It was all peer reviewed like most of wikipedia is.

I'm still at this time doing most of the updating and I'm not being "editorialized" by anybody.

So Rolf, you are more then welcome to add to the webpage, Paul Warren can set you up with an inlog account. When you add stuff just announce it on the forum or privately to Paul and myself and the peer review proces can commence.

I've reached in my pocket again and renewed our URL claims.

Naturally Paul W. is doing to same for the hosting and bandwidth costs.

And Rick White is still gracious enough to let us have this forum for free.

I just wanted to make this clear so that the class members understand that these things don't just happen on their own. That there are some people in the backgroun covering for the items that are normally paid from the membership fees.

So how about getting those national organisations online !

You have an organisation run by thank less volunteers.

Gee, I have never seen that before.

The site is offline, again. This time it has been hacked. I'm about to jump on a plane, but my colleagues are looking into this now.

I'm beginning to regret the decision to use Joomla, and it seems to be an endless source of security holes.

Wouter,

Patience is a virtue!!.

Most of us have jobs (some have 2!)& family to deal with, then we get to spend some time on those sorts of things.

But I would agree that you personally (or others) should not have to pay for class incurred costs.

Are there better alternatives ? If so, should we switch ?

If I were doing it again, I'd want to do it in straight HTML, built using templates. That said, I don't have a good answer as to how we'd integrate the calendar and gallery.

I didn't realise the domains were up for renewal. If I did, I would have mentioned that my company now does domain registrations.

The matter of the domains was raised at the AGM, and it was agreed that the class should take these on.

Would html provide better security? (not a rhetorical q.)

If you wanted to do the whole thing yourself, forever, html might be fine, but Hans, Rolf et al may not find it as accessible.

HTML is secure because it does not need any database to operate correctly. The only problem is html means written hard coded pages which can be a nightmare.
Another con against HTML it usually doesnt look very good, unless its a web developer working on it, which in turn still takes hours and hours.

I dont think there is such a thing as a secure CMS. I honestly do not see an easy way out of this problem.

I would offer my time, but sadly I already do too many "online" things. Running two online businesses plus a military career takes up my entire time.
