The boat with the black transoms is a Nacra 5.8na (pre foam core construction) that was sailed by Pete and Brian Cosgrove after Pete's Trac-18 got trashed (that boat is now a lake power boat). Pete and Brian dominated on that boat (as they did on the Trac), and sold the boat to John Geiger (haven't seen Pete since). Not sure who John sold his 18 to, and now that John and Chris Young have bought Alec's 6.0 (with the Smyth sails)the 5.8 has been sold as well (not sure who to, not in the Fleet).

Jim's old P-19 was in storage for awhile, not sure if he has sold it or not, but he's much happier on the Nacra-20.

Here's an easy one - who are these mooks?:

I got the Wrong John, sorry Keith. I was thinking Capt. Hollywood himself, John McLaughlin.

Capt. Hollywood? Hadn't heard that before? Nice, I'll be using that more often than "smiley"!

Smiley because that dudes smile grows with the wind strength. When its full-on pucker factor time for me all you can see looking at John is that smile.

The Legend Begins:

It was a miserable day with the wind hard from the south, 20-25 knots on that second day of the “Down the Bay”. We stood on the beach at Windmill Point awaiting the arrival of the few boat that hadn’t dropped out of the race that day. Around the point came the two big modified Worrell NACRA 6.0s w/ Ladderracks closely together. Up onto the beach they charged . WOOOOOSH …….

One of the crew jumped off his boat, turned and pointed, he exclaimed “ Who the hell is on that boat ….. God ?????!!!!!!”

And coming around the point was a Hobie 16 with white prism sails. It was Lee and John McLaughlin, Lee was puking and John was steering …… The H-16 slide up onto the beach through the surf, and we grabbed her ….. Lee fell off the boat and kind of crawled …. John with the biggest smile I have ever seen, turned and said “ … anyone got a Ciggie ??? “

And the Legend of John McLaughlin began …..

I so witnessed and testify

I just call him Hollywood for short. Harry your right about the ciggie. He told us, when we ground crewed for him in the 98 Worrell, all he wanted was a Diet coke and a ciggie when they got in everyday. Being the mellow guy that he is, he didn't even get mad when we gave all his Diet Cokes to the Hooter's calendar shoot models at Daytona.:)
The man is truly my HERO.

A little challenge for tonight. The first catsailor to name this song in the bar area gets a prize (Maybe even a N20 style prize). Please don't help out on here.

I’m not the one who’s so far away,
When I feel the snake bit enter my veins.
Never did I wanna be here again
And I don’t remember why I came.

Candles raise my desire.
Why I’m so far away.
No more meaning for my life?
No more reason to stay.
Freezing feeling, breathe in - breathe in,

I’m coming back again!
I’m not the one who’s so far away,
When I feel the snake bit enter my veins.
Never did I wanna be here again
And I don’t remember why I came.
Hazing clouds rain on my head,
empty thoughts fill my ears.
Find my shade by the moon light,
why my thoughts aren’t so clear.
Demons dreaming, breathe in - breathe in.
I’m coming back again.
. . . .
