Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | I'm surprised there is no bow sprit, at least not from what I can see in some of the pictures. Still, it looks fast and stable.
OK, what's it cost??
Those two ama's remind me of the Inter 20 hulls, I was thinking about buying an older I20, building a center hull and beams, then using all the sails, mast, etc. from the I-20 on the "new" trimaran, and if possible, leave as much of the I-20 stuff un-altered, so you could take it apart to use it as a cat again if you wanted, or as a tri when you wanted to take the whole family out.
Remember that old Dick Newick designed tri, which used the Hobie 16 hulls as amas, but use Inter 20 hulls instead. I think it could be done for the price of the used I-20 ($8,000) plus what you are willing to spend on the center hull build, and the beams to hold it all together.

The Tremelino - still out there, there's been some threads on SA regarding it. Try looking for stuff on the Reynolds 28 - before he went with the cat design they were going to make a 28 foot tri based on I-20 hulls as the amas. Had his own folding mechanism and the whole bit. In the end I think it was too much boat for the I-20 hulls. Scale it back a bit, you might have something... There's also something out there now called the Predator, which uses your supplied cat hulls for amas. | | | Re: 1st weta tri's getting rave reviews

Posts: 915 Dublin, Ireland | Someone was talking about designer Derek Kelsall on the F12 Forum recently. Derek had a trimaran design about 30 years ago, using Tornado hulls. I think that it was called a Typhoon

Posts: 6,049 Sebring, Florida. | Which is it, 5.5 or 6.0 hulls? I really wanted the Inter 20 hulls because of the huge volume in the bows, to avoid the kind of pitch-polling some tri's are famous for. I had a 5.5 and did like it but the bows were narrow, with the extra wt. of a center hull, they would go under easily.
Good project for someone though!

Posts: 1,459 Annapolis,MD | Who is "Mike" and where are these L7 plans? Micheal Leneman, of MultiMarine fame. The L7 is a tri kit, the design of the amas were based off the N6.0 hulls. Mike has a history of making Corsairs go faster, has some neat ideas on other things as well. Check out Multi Marine and go to the L7 link | | | Re: 1st weta tri's getting rave reviews

Posts: 297 | In the videos it looks very "pitchy". Without a trap it looks impossible to get far enough back with the kite up. That was my impression too. I also wondered about righting from a turtle position, as that also looked like it might be more frequent. Additionally,I wondered what was the recommended action when entering a Pitch...blow the tack and round up?? Bear off??...One would think that with the kite up you would bear off, but to me it looks like you will be going butt over tea-kettle every time trouble starts. Worth a ride and the price is right, though!
