PS i think a hobie 16 would be a great start into the cat world. if you want to move up in a year or 2, it should retain its value... | | | Re: Which cat is best? New and need help deciding

Posts: 75 Florida | OK, sorry for trying to pass on inside info to keep your hard earned teaching dollars going where you want them to go. I was simply stating that you have Murrays right down the road because you will find, once you start sailing, you are going to need parts and gear. Which boat should you buy? At this point I could care less. Slight hijack Why isnt Murrays listed on the Hobie site as a dealer?

Posts: 975 South Louisiana, USA | Like I said in my post, "Just for fun". To expound on that, not race, not circumnavigation, just daysail off the Santa Barbara coast and launch from the beach. Buy a Hobie Wave. Great for tooling around on and a good starting block. Heck for some its a starting block, landing platform and ending mode! Clayton | | | Re: Which cat is best? Unregistered | I think the WAVE is great for families and cat "sailing light".
There is nothing wrong with them, but I can’t see them as being "performance" cats at all.
If you are an accomplished sailor, I would think you would want a bit more of a performance catamaran | | | Re: Which cat is best? New and need help deciding

Posts: 224 Cincinnati, Ohio | The H14's are all getting old and parts are getting scarce. All of the 14's that I have looked had have had bad delamination.
I'd go with the H16, just because they are easy to get parts for. I bought an older H16 dirt cheap and in a few years when the delam gets really bad, I'll go snag some newer used hulls.....

Unregistered | Yeah I agree with you...when you need cat parts go straight to murrays. but I recently bought some gear from sailing pro and I received it in two days!! From my understanding its under new ownership. Get your parts HERE guys. Support Rick and Mary. They do a lot for us. Think about it. If you order, order here. Doug | | | Re: Which cat is best? I don't know Doug. Don't get me wrong, I applaud everything that Rick and Mary do for the sport. And I love this website that they have. But it is an open forum and like it or not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personally choose to do my shopping at my local dealer because supporting my local dealer that supports my regattas is important to me.

It is too bad that most people do not have a local dealer at all, much less one that supports their regattas. Tom Tannert was our dealer up in Ohio back in the "old days," and he didn't just sell boats. He took people out for rides, he taught people how to sail, and if you bought a boat from him, he would even take you out and capsize to show you how to right it! He built various fleets throughout his area, and he came to all their events and usually raced in them. There are not many people like that any more, but if you are lucky enough to have one in your area, you should support them by doing business with them. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> | | | Re: Which cat is best? [/quote] Collin: Wasn't the local dealer I was talking about,I ALWAYS went to KO Sailing, it is telling people on here to go to Murray's or other online stores instead of the online store here. Yea everyone has the right to buy where they want I just think it is wrong to do it on Rick & Mary's site. You boss wouldn't want someone coming in your dealership and saying buying parts at the dealer across the street would they. That is all I am saying, that is just not right. Doug
