Dear readers,
We have an update on the specs of the Nacra F17 EU version. The Texel handicap rating committee has released their findings :

http://www.watersportverbond.nl/content.asp?me_id=468%20Basically Texel has found for the SLOOP rigged Nacra F17 EU version :
Length overall = 5.24 mtr
Length waterline = 5.23 mtr
Weight ready to sail incl spi = 159 kg
Mainsail+mast area = 15.27 sq. mtr
Mainsail luff = 8.72 mtr
jib area = 3.89 sq. mtr
jib luff = 5.44 mtr
Texel rating (rounded off) = 104
Interestingly enough the same specs under SCHRS produce 1.034 = smaller then lower F104 limit of 1.035. (That is with the new smaller daggerboards)
So while the Texel measurers confirm the boat to be at 159 kg they also measure a jib that is larger and a longer luffed mainsail then was given by the F104 class

http://class104.over-blog.org/pages/Mesures_des_principeaux_104-33825.htmlBoth of these combine to make the boat non-F104 compliant again. The ready to sail weight needs to be raised to 160 kg to reach the threshold of 1.035 under the SCHRS handicap system. And up to 165 kg in order to reach 1.040 and giving yourself a little bit of margin for when the sails stretch or the event checks are a little less well executed.
Another thing that is interesting to note is that the 1-up version of this Nacra F17 EU version (no jib) was measured to be 4 kg lighter (155 kg) ! And that is alot for a jib setup. In comparison, F16 jib setups incl. everything like the selftacking rail, blocks, sheet, etc are around 2.5 kg.
We'll await the SCHRS official measurements
