Wow, Robie's worst finish is a 3rd, that's pretty consistant.

So, we are going to have to lower the P number for the Capricorn, right?

It was a joke, keep your panties on...

I know, that's why I said it! I'm just glad Robie's not sailing a Blade or I'd have to sail to HIS number...But seriously, when is the F18 number going to come down too, now that you guys have figured out how to sail it faster? Or are you saying nobody has gotten -any better- in the past 3 years?

Are you saying -only- the F16 needed an adjustment?

None of the "new" F18's are any faster than the old Tiger generated number? Then why is everyone in the top half of the fleet sailing new F18's, and not old Tigers?

They are obviously faster, so therefore, we need an adjustment, right? Funny how it's only a fair system when someone else is getting -adjusted-.

Here's what we really need to do. Measure the courses, from A to C mark, and measure the wind for each race. Then take the times of the fastest boat (only) in each class, around the course (no B marks allowed) and do some math, to come up with some type of a speed indexed number. Otherwise, you are handicapping a good sailors skill, not the boat's potential, even more so if the wind is shifty and gusty. Some guys just know how to pick the right side of a course, consistantly.

Now, of course there will never be a perfect handi cap system, as human skill is still involved in the process of determining the speed, but I would rather the boats be handicapped on -horse power- (sail area vs. weight, vs. waterline length, vs. beam) than skipper's sailing skills on a particular day.

You know I love you Dave, I'm just saying, maybe we should or could get Pete Melvin to run some -speed potential- type numbers for us and see where that leads us vs. basing the whole thing on who is having a good day.

Take it to the handicap thread or call me. I'm not getting into this subject with you in the NAF18 Championship thread.

Well, when everyone saw the picture at the party at Kirk's house tonight, the overwhelming response to the photo was . . .
Arrggghhhh!!!
BTW, Enrique and Jorge brought some fine premium rum from P.R. and the photos for Friday will more than likely be blurry.

Interesting setup, I guess the advantage would be that the crew no longer has to hand the mainsheet to the helm when tacking.

Hey just shows you what warming up on a F16 can do for you grin. Good result Greg.

Amazing where Macca turns up, some Ozzies will sail anything to stay away from home crazy.

Its a much better sheeting angle for the crew when trapped out going upwind as well. Gives the crew a lot more leverage to grind and stuff.

Talked to JW about it yesterday, overall he likes it. It's a bit of a hassle in the medium breeze when having to move the sheet around the shroud.

As indicated in a previous post he does carry the mainsheet through the tack. The skipper only get's the sheet at the mark roundings.

Krantz developed a sheet system that cleats at both ends, so all the crew has to do is cleat it off at the boom, and the skipper can unclear his at the back at the traditional spot and carry on. I donno if he's got it on the Layline/zhik boat or not.

Cant find any closeup pics of the setup but it looks like there's no cleat.
In this pic you see it coming through a ratchet on the tramp:
