Unregistered | Hey who does like sailing at McCrae? Unless you are a local of course, no offence intended . But it is the Vic Cat Champs. Also McCrae has so many other things going for it, good beach, sensational scenery and lots of other stuff I can't think of right now. Oh I know the entry fee is reasonable this year, that must be why I am going. Hope it doesn't end like every other year for me.

Unless you are a local of course, no offence intended . 140+ boats on the register, over 100 regular racers across the season, of which about 50% are Cats. I guess you're right. Must be a sh*t place to sail. No offence taken

Posts: 943 East Gippsland, Australia | Must be a sh*t place to sail. That's a bit harsh Simon (only kidding - I know what you mean). I'm sure a member at McRae that sails there every week would experience some really good weekends for sailing. The problem is that the cat regatta has never yet coincided with one of these weekends. Hence I'm afraid it's become a bit of a standing joke that "you don't go to race at McRae for the pleasure of it". I know one year the weather is going to do the right thing and and it will be a sensational regatta - it has to one day. McRae's reputation isn't enough to put me off the regatta, but sadly I can't come this year for other reasons. So that will help the weather to turn out good - just to spite me

Posts: 432 McCrae Y.C. Mornington Peninsu... | All in good fun Tim. The Bethwaite boys at our club are giving up their weekends sailing to run it for we catamaran types so one has to defend ones home base. Sadly for me, the quid pro quo is that I'll be returning the favour for the Bethwaite regatta on the weekend of the Mozzie Spi Titles so I won't be able to defend my Mk1 title so bravely won against all comers down at Loch Sport last year. I'm hoping to get over to Somers at some stage. Always good to see Mozzies with kites at the head of the fleet Cheers

Posts: 556 Somers, Westernport Bay, Victo... | Simon, You are always welcome at Somers. Sadly I don't think there will be any Mozzies from Somers at the Cat Championships with Jeremy Pearse being RC @ Somers and others too interested in club racing/socializing/long weekend holiday with Monday off. We had 6 Mozzies fill the 1st 8 places for the opening day regatta last Saturday although none with spinnakers due to the wind forecast. 1st was a Tornado. 2 Mozzies don't have masts up yet, 1 is yet to arrive and 3 are waiting for warmer weather. 2 went to Balnarring Beach from Somers so I believe they have a fleet of 3 (zero to 3 during the winter is pretty damm good). Hows the other Mozzie coming along at McCrae ? Regards, Peter

Hi Peter Sadly he has done nothing with it and has decided to spend his money on his PT. Go figure! His father is bringing it back to me in bits next week so I guess I will go back to plan A and grab any useful fittings and the mast and then dump it That is unless anyone knows anybody that wants a project. Looks like it's just me waving the Mozzie flag for another season. I had a bloke aproach me on the beach last Sat. who said he sailed a Mozzie at Safety beach and that there were 2 of them sailing regularly down there. I'll go for a race there one Sunday soon and find out what boats and who etc. I believe there is a Viper F16 coming to live at McCrae. (one of the "A" boys is jumping ship) so I guess I'll have to master my beast this year and perhaps add a kite Cheers

Posts: 943 East Gippsland, Australia | What the hell was going on at McRae this weekend? Just look at these scores! Overall series scores Peter Nikitin managed an awesome 2nd place overall. Well done Peter!!!! But look at the scores. Peter is on 54.5 points !!! The 3rd place boat is on 62 points. Even the winner has a total of 29.5. The fleet must have been all over the place.

Posts: 556 Somers, Westernport Bay, Victo... | Simon, Any reports from the Cat Championships ? I see from the results that Peter Nikitin scored 2nd overall and 1st in division 2. Mozzies also had 1st to 7th in division 2. It's a pity that Mick Floyd couldn't repeat last years victory result. Regards, Peter

Posts: 432 McCrae Y.C. Mornington Peninsu... | Hi Peter, I recall that Mick did a thorough report of last years event for our web site so I didn't want to pre-empt it on here. I wouldn't want to accidently mention Mr Neeson's "special" award. Oh bugger, I have It would be good to get some of you Somers Mozzies over for next year. It's a great chance for you guys to enjoy a bit of a Mozzie fest without the travel. Cheers
