Posts: 3,348 | If you're snowed in and you are taking a prescribed drug for high cholesterol, you might want to wade through this. http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/niacin/Specifically: "High cholesterol and cardiovascular disease Pharmacologic doses of nicotinic acid, but not nicotinamide, have been known to reduce serum cholesterol since 1955 (22). Today, niacin is commonly prescribed with other lipid-lowering medications. However, one randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial examined the effect of nicotinic acid therapy (three grams daily), alone, on outcomes of cardiovascular disease. Specifically, the Coronary Drug Project (CDP) followed over 8,000 men with a previous myocardial infarction (heart attack) for six years (23). Compared to the placebo group, the group that took three grams of nicotinic acid daily experienced an average 10% reduction in total blood cholesterol, a 26% decrease in triglycerides, a 27% reduction in recurrent nonfatal myocardial infarction, and a 26% reduction in cerebrovascular events (stroke + transient ischemic attacks)."

Posts: 2,074 Northfield,NH USA | The only word I understood Pete, was "Today". I'm afraid to open the link! But we are snowed in...... probably 20-30 inches of snow and 45 mph winds. Sun's coming out though!!! Gotta go plow. Something like 17,000 people still without power in New Hampshire. I heard yesterday that part of the problem now is that they have run out of supplies like transformers and cable. Could be quite a while to get everything back. Side note: I'm sure the aid from all the UN countries like France and Spain and Italy is "on it's way" like it would be if the roles were reversed.

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | Why the Capricorn initially considered a leap of faith? Great boat, isn't it? Or was it a risky fit for situation? I was the first in the US to buy the boat - I'd never seen it or even heard of it, so I felt like I was taking a big chance writing the check. After I got my mitts on it though, my concerns quickly melted away. Also, coming from the Mystere 4.3, I was making a pretty big jump in performance. After spending some time crewing in the F18 fleet, though, I really felt like that was the place for me. Two-up spinnaker catamaran racing is my favorite.

Posts: 182 Appleton, WI | My first duplex. We were just married, didn’t have two dimes to rub together, but came up with the money for our first “big” investment. We were 19 & 20 years old and scared to death. That first duplex gave us the equity to buy another, and another, and… Now (13 years later) we have 40 rental units, live in a decent house and I get to sail and ski once in a while. That really is odd. I have been doing LASIK since 1996 (as well as cataract surgery and corneal transplants) and have been very happy with the results. I've performed the procedure on my wife, two sister, my father, my partner's wife, elite athletes, actors, state senators, etc. I will consider it myself when the need comes. That's not to say it's right for everyone. But it really is a wonderful, safe technology in the right hands and for the right eyes.

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | Have to agree with Clayton. I may be the only guy in SoCal making gumbo and étouffée. I make it mighty fine, but there's an indefinable quality lacking... could be the air, could be the water, though Jerry's in P'cola must import one or the other, 'cause he gets it right. Made the mistake of ordering étouffée at a "cajun" place out here. Wow. What a miss.
