The photos I used for the Full Wave Audio story were actually shot by Amy Turns.

There are apps out there that can make all the spots show up on the same map. Offroad enthusiasts are all about the spots for their expeditions and the ability to call for help.

I can see it's possible to get spots from different accounts to show up on a 3rd party app - it's just integrating data. To be honest I did not think the spot tracker page is very well executed and a 3rd party app could be a lot slicker. (anyone got a link to an example?)

The synchronization issue is a little trickier. Has anyone validated the theory that if everyone starts their spot at the same time then the updates all occur at the same time? Without synchronized updates the spots are pretty useless for tracking race positions - but remain useful for figuring out where the stragglers are.

Chris.

if nothing else works or is economically feasable, why not just download everyone's GPS after the leg to one page, and at least you'd have everyone's tracks and data together.

Sort of a "daily digest" type thing...

thats an idea... but honestly, my GPS loses reception so frequently that it'd be near worthless.

That would be cool... but the benefit of the Spot is live racing tracking for road crews, rc, etc.
Last year the RC was sitting in the hotel lobby in Jupiter watching several of the boats to get an idea of when they would arrive.

either way, I think a digest of who took what course (and what happened) on a map might be nice for the video guys as well as possible strategic decisions by teams for next year...?

A chart/map with the GPS tracks and weather (at the time) overlaid would be really over the top...

some guys are really protective of their GPS points.

I don't have a problem with it, but some teams might.

You guys use a gps? I'm not sure you could translate a course from my sextant but you could try. Yeah, we're old school.

Maybe you should contact these guys: http://www.sport-track.com/
This was used during the last Round Texel race, it works in realtime and plots everything on a map.

The cool thing is that you can later replay the whole race from the website.

Trey... if everyone gets the Spots we should get a display for our boats to show where they are... that way when your coming in real fast you don't run into them and break their masts which would suck a lot more than breaking Chris's ski pole!

kind of off subject. but where on the beach at tybee does the race end? on the south end near the pier or somewhere up north?

also, what are the rules about landing catamarans there? i thought it would be fun to sail the 6 miles over from hilton head that morning and spend the day watching the racers land and then sail back late that afternoon.

Depends on erosion. He tries to finish in front of that godawful hotel by the pier, but last year he had to finish North a bit.

North is better - it's right at the pull out point.
