Posts: 3,655 Portland, Maine | also, what are the rules about landing catamarans there? i thought it would be fun to sail the 6 miles over from hilton head that morning and spend the day watching the racers land and then sail back late that afternoon. Don't run over tourists swimming and you'll be fine. Unless something has changed recently, you can launch and land at Tybee un-harassed. However, if I were you I'd try to steer clear of the landing area outlined by the two orange flags. If we do make it there during daylight, you can assume that it was because the wind was honkin | | | Re: New Tybee 500 Site rolled out

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | With respect to the "secret GPS tracks", if they're posted after the fact (or even after the race), would it make any difference in the strategy of the teams?
I mean, it seems pretty simple that there are only a few strategies you can employ, and some are entirely dependent on local weather conditions. It's not like you have a secret track through the back side of Largo that no one knows about...
Or do some of you not want to be seen cutting through the exclusion zone at cape Kennedy?

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Like I said, I don't mind sharing my GPS points with anyone who asks...
I can't imagine anyone really would...but you wouldn't want to use everyone's misc. GPS - half of them have corroded contacts and all sorts of issues making connectivity impossible. To do this (and I think it's a neat idea), the race (or whoever) would need to manage a specific gps, take care of mounting it, take care of retrieving it, and take care of uploading the data. Otherwise it just becomes really cumbersome on part of whoever is trying to make it all work.
