I noticed on the new wildcat they are taking the spinnaker whisker lines from the fore stay attachment. I would love to change the capricorn to the same setup. has anyone done that already? any known issues?
Why do you want to change the current set-up? My Taipan, predecessor of the Capricorn, had the wisker lines also at the fore stay attachments. I assume AHPC had good reasons to change this on the Capricorn.
The holes in the bow are wearing, sooner or later they will need to be glassed and re drilled.
It would be nice to get the boat cover on without disconnecting the whiskers. I have mast up storage and a cover for the suffer is being made by Goodall sails as we speak.
Do you have the original Goodall boat cover for the Capricorn? I was considering this since I am not particularly happy with one I have, manufactured by the german distributor of the Cap. But if you have to remove the whisker-lines to get this on, it's not a real alternative ...
Just have a quick release ie the shackles I had on Dazz's boat before I sold it to him. Best to take the tension off the pole when storing. The cover the boat came with only required the 2 shackles on the 'wiskers' to be released before putting the cover on whist rigged.
I would go a step futher by removing the spinnaker pole and storing it under the boat cover on top of the tramp. (I was yet to make a cover for the snuffer)
Yeah I have the standard goodall boat cover. It loops over the bows and is fitted like any other boat cover. Its not exactly a great cover, it leaves larges gaps where the sides have been opened for the stays and front trapeze wires. Also the standard tie off system is pretty basic and time consuming. (upgraded to shock cord and plastic hooks)
I made one for my last boat, cost me $300 AUD and was a much better fit. When this one dies I will make another.
The two shackles on the whiskers are still there. no need to improve on things that work...
... this sounds even more worse than mine. And I paid €600 ... By the way, is your sailing season coming to an end now or can you sail the whole year through? We just get started, water is still 6°C.
Dazz, coming back to the subject of the whiskers <=> boat cover: as mentioned before, my boat cover is far from being perfect, but this problem is solved pretty smart. Just in case when you design the next cover ...
