The 10th Annual Duck Cup was at least interesting. 18 teams entered the 2 day distance race and only 10 finished both days. Dave and Renee Lennard won on their F-18, Lloyd Graves and Todd Hart (Yes, Todd was on an f-18 and a Hobie at that) finished Second and Jack Robey and Daniel Screeney finished 3rd on a Hobie Getaway. (Derek your sister finished both days and did great but she neglected to go across the finish line on Saturday as the storm was coming fast). Saturday's start was delayed as a sea breeze filled in and the course was actually shortened up a bit due to the light air. The wind ended up filling in but the course shortening wound up being a good idea due to some thunderstorms. Most of the boats beat the storms back and some benefitted from the storms and others spent and agonizing amount of time sitting as the wind shifted (the proverbial calm before the storm). A few teams sought shelter and rode the storm out. One of the Windriders in the race actually went flying into a soundside development canal system until they could find a canal to turn up into the wind. They spent the storm in a restaurant having a late lunch. The looks on the residents faces must have been classic. Another H-16 flipped in the islands and rode the storm out and finished after the storm to a beach full of happy sailors. Sunday looked like a gorgeous 10-15 out of the North and turned into 20 out of the NE which made it a downwind run to the bridge and a tough beat upwind back. Almost everyone finished on Saturday with only a couple of boats getting in trouble.
All in all a great weekend as Lori's famous beergaritas were flowing after the race on Saturday as everyones stories got told. This is a fun weekend!! It is the 2nd Weekend in June every year.
