Hi Guys,
Its been a very busy week, so I apologize for the delay in posting a post event up-date ...
1) Friday, the Down the River race was just Awesome!!!! It was a spectagular sight at the start w/ all the different types of boat designs represented. Mr Ed Mill's on his F16 Blade jumped out to an early lead w/ Mr Chris Ford on his Blue A-Cat close behind and then Mr John Macielag skippering "The Patricia" a traditional Chesapeake Log Canoe following closely. Quickly the other A-Cats made their way out of the pack and worked their way past "the Patricia" which was running along on a reach, I was operating the "support boat" for "the Patricia" and I was doing better then 10knts trying to keep up w/ her most of the time. It was just a fantastically spectacular day on the Chester River ... a day I'll remember till the day I die!!!
Now at 12:15pm the Sailing school instructer at RHYC asked what time did the DTR Race start and when were the boats expected to finish; a little after 11:00am they started and maybe 2-3ish they'll finish ... why? With an out-stretched arm they pointed "Because here they come around the point!!!!! They are in sight!!!!" Mr Chris Brown had passed Mr Ed Mills who had made a tactical mistake and was leading .... but didn't know where the finish line was .... Ed who was trailing and not by much, directed Chris to the finish line!!!! A gentleman finish to, A GREAT RACE!!!!
2) Mr John Mclaughlin had left WRSC at approximently 3pm ... at approximently 5:30pm a observer at Sandy Point called me and asked "is John in yet? The wind is dropping out on the bay ...." Now John called in a couple of time over the next several hrs when he sat becalmed ... finally he appeared off of RHYC at 10:00pm and the wind dieeeeed .... there he sat 500yds out and not a whisper/gossomer/breath of breeze. 5mins ... 10mins ... 30mins .... what to do, what to do???? ... To the Dingy Rack!!!! So at 10:45pm a big John McLaughlin belly laugh was heard across the water by those on-shore as John was towed in the last 500yds by a 8' dink being rowed .... another chapter is added in 'The Sailing Advantures of John McLaughlin' ... anytime, anywhere, anyhow, my friend ....
3) On Sat the RHYC Annual One-Design Regatta started ... but first we had to wait for the T-Storms to pass ... what a downpour!!! We then went out to race ... but during the second race w/ waterspouts reported 5m to the south and T-Storms to the north, a T-Storm to the west, drew a dead bead on the racecourse ... and we all ran away, back to RHYC and took our sails down ... then the sun came out ... so we proceeded to the bar and told tall sailing stories ...
We had a delicious dinner ... more socializing w/ old and new friends and then rested ... forcast for Sun: Winds from NW/ 20knts w/ gusts to +25
Sunday started with 'BIG' breeze, by half way through the first race approximently a half dozen cats of various classes EXCEPT the H14 Class had retired. The H14's were having a BLAST and just eating up the conditions. Now after all us 'early retires' had our sails down, the wind moderated and it became REALLY nice. The A-Cats skooted around ... and the F16's were a sight to see, all being sailed One-Up and flying their chutes down wind (WOOF, WOOF, WOOF!!!!) The "Open" class also charged around w/ Wally having his hands full as everyone kept close, ready to pounce ... AND a BIG CONGRADULATIONS to Junior Hobie Sailor Ryan Flanigan in beating Wally and taking 1st in a race. ( Me and lots of others have tried for years to beat Wally .... dang youngsters !!!) The PRO, Mr John Macielag did an excellent job of setting and timing 3 races on Sun for a total of 4 races ....

Also, On Thurs, RHYC held a CBYRA Junior Sailing Regatta, luckily I stayed on Mon&Tues and cut the field ... we had 75 Juniors racing in Opti's, Lasers, and 420's, along w/ a half dozen coach boats. What a sight to see ...... on land .....and on water .....
Chris Allen, were you at the 'Junior' event???
