I just became a G-Cat 5.7 owner. I really like the boat so far. I have a question about the Mast to Mast Step connection. I am in need of the Teflon Pivot Cap. Is there any place that still carries these so I can purchase a handful? Thanks in advance for your help...

Murrays Marine and possibly Rick on this site(Onlinemarinestore.com
The 5.7 is a nice boat, great rating and can be retrofitted with spin very easily. The rudder system is easy and works great, have fun!

I used to use Gatorade Bottle caps on the Dart 20, other people cut disk out of milk cartons, or you can buy the disk. Have fun, G-Cat 5.7 is a good boat.

Kind of a late reply........

I just use a little suntan lotion like bull frog between the mast and mast step works fine. I use to make plastic chips but white grease or suntan lotion works just fine with less hassle.

Hobie makes a curved disk that works very well and are dirt cheap. they can be tricky to get in the right spot and stay in place during stepping.

I used to use the gatoraid caps but they really don't last more than 2 or 3 uses. the white teflon disks last dozens of times (i usually lose them before they wear out).

I am sure grease helps, but i can't see it working as well as a physical barrier between 2 metal parts that are under a lot of pressure, but then again... Mike has a g-cat, was a seabee, and knows his shiznits...

Since the G-Cat is getting to be a dinosaur here is a pic of my slightly modified G-Cat. Not the fastest around the marks these days compared to the new boats but great fun to sail and surf the waves.
Thanks MN3 for the vote of confidence, the only time a chip really makes a difference may be light winds and usually you have to tug the sail across anyway.

Still sailing, would expect to see him sailing the Hangover off the Dunedin Causeway, Jan 1, 2011.

The Hangover didn't happen but i did sail with him in 20 to gusts in the low 30's. we were both singlehanded. Not bad for a 70 years young guy smile
