Jay- we pooched it both ways!! Tacked and got headed trying to get to the channel, then saw boats going behind the island and went for the short-cut where we got bogged down in the shallows. The ride back to Miami made up for it all though!!!

Ratings is ratings unless you are sailing with a different configuration than that the builder declared. If you change the configuration you have to inform the race commitee or PRO.

Pete, were you on the Blade that passed us midway? We had a Blade that was hangin on for the longest time and then found a burst of speed and put a few hundred yards on us until the first tack......

Blade 709 (white). We were doing well until Turkey Point, being my first MKL we thought we would cut the corner, and went through the east end of midnight pass which was about a foot or two deep, with little rudder, we slowed down to half speed, and then a white hull Tornado or Prinde 19 behind us passed us, who went the west end of the pass. Looking at the chart the west end has about five feet of water for a while and that is were a lot of boats caught up to us.

That Tornado was me, ARC21 #2101, after you tacked we held the line since it was a consistent lift all the way to shore and tacked back east.
