Last year we started a tradition of sailing and camping on peanut island for my birthday. This year it is next weekend on July 8-10th.

So far I think we will have about 4 boats including a 22' Catalina. We will start Early on Friday sailing both ocean and intercolstal and head ocean side in the late afternoon for happy hour and food at one of the Singer Island Tiki Bars. We also usually do a midnight run down the intercostal toward downtown West Palm Beach.

The island is only accessible by boat. There is a non power vessel launch at Phil Foster Park but you will need a permit to leave the trailer at the park. They have a water taxi service that can take you the short (75 yards across)for a minimal fee.

There is no charge for camping on the west side of the island. I pull my boat up to the high tide line and pitch a tent right on my trampoline (luxury of a 12' wide Supercat 20).

Below are a couple of videos on the area. They are commercialized but loaded with info:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPEIuXa7HZw (Part 1)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPEIuXa7HZw (Part 2)

Anyone interested in joining the fun, let me know.

My furlough was extended until Sunday July 10th. So the new dates are: Friday July 8th to Sunday July 10th.

If the weather goes to crap, we can stay at my condo and keep the boats out front.

We usually watch the skies/radar and pull up to a tiki bar when the weather rolls in. It is usually short lived and give you enough time for food and a drink or two.

Can't make it this year, but it sounds like fun.

that's the island with that floating bar/dancing pontoon boat (with the palm trees) that rolls up, correct?

That's it. Sunday is the out of control day at the sand bar. It is like spring break every Sunday. The rest of the weekend is usually pretty mellow.

MJ and Larry are in town and want to take the boat out. I store it all year so we are thinking about taking the Power Boat out. A little burned out from vacation and back to work today.

We are kicking around the idea of also getting out the sailboat and camping. I need to get my 2011 Palm Beach County parking sticker for the trailer........they still doing that?

Yeah, you will still need the sticker. It would be great if you can get your boat out. We should have plenty of hands. arbo06 is probably in as well and he might bring down his ARC 21. How much for a weekend sticker? I might have you pick one up for arbo06. Herendeen can't make it with his A-Cat because of work.

Possible Boats:
Supercat 20 (Me)
Catalina 22 Swing Keel (not so Fast Eddie)
ARC 21 (Eric Arbogast aka arbo06)
G-Cat 6.0 (TMS 20 aka Cliffy)
Nacra 5.8 (Dick Maddonald)
Hobie 16 (Steven Craemer)

Also trying to get a hold of Wolfie (Prindle 16) and Bruce McKeever (Nacra 6.0) to get them out as well.

Here is a link for Parking permit for the salt water boat ramp for Palm Beach County. http://www.pbcgov.com/parks/boating_fishing/boattrailerparkingpermit.htm#purchaseonline
1 day $10
Annual $35
Need to buy in advance.

Now if they would just tax golf carts I would not feel so bad....always picking on the boaters.

So I made it up there on Friday night (saturday morning)and stayed at the Van Eaton Hilton on the Atlantic Ocean. We had a great time sailing in the ocean for most of the day with what I think were quality people, Craig, Scott, Ryan and me, just fooling around and enjoying Florida's charm.
Craig, Thank your sweetie for the gumbo, it kept me going, twice. And thank you for the friendship.

Sorry I missed all the fun. We went out in the Ocean early - before noon - in the power boat and saw Craig’s boat on the beach and what looked like one other. Then we went into to Peanut Island threw out the anchor and watched the circus of people and boats go by. My houseguests are gone now so life can return to normal whatever that is.

Hi Guys,

Great weekend. Sorry we missed you Mike. Were you out on Saturday or Sunday?

I did little sailing on Friday before meeting some friends at the Hilton tiki bar for dinner, drinks and music. Then headed for Peanut Island about 9pm when I got a call from Fast Eddie. He hit a sandbar and could not get loose. By the time I got to him, the tide came up enough to free him. He also had some motor issues we worked through but we made it to Peanut before midnight.

Surprisingly there were only a few mosquitoes and no noseeums. I pitched the tent on the beach and left my sails up. I had a great nights sleep except being repeatedly woken by Eric (Arbo06) needing directions and to be buzzed into the condo about 4am.

Saturday morning, I woke up early and was on the water by 7:30. With very little wind and an outgoing current, I started making my way towards the condo. Before I got too far, the clouds came in and wind picked up. I traveled out, sheeted in and was back at the condo before 8am.

Another buddy of mine (Dr. Scott) and his friend met me there along with Eric and we had gumbo while the rain was passing. When we got back out on the boat, the weather was great with some minor rain which helped to cool us off. We also had some rum/vodka concoction that Dr. Scott created to give you energy.

After we dropped Dr. Scott and his friend off, I got a vmail that Fast Eddie had boat issues and had to be towed back home. He had a tow boat membership so it was not a big issue. We also had a trampoline issue that was getting worse so we headed back to Peanut Island to get the tent and called it a day as well. Before Eric left, we had another bowl of gumbo and enjoyed drinks and the ocean off the balcony.
