Posts: 4,118 Northfield Mn | Spammers don't realize catsailors are the cheapest people on earth. Throw a penny in the middle of a slippers meeting and there will be blood.
I'm boatless.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | A "Slippers" meeting is a skippers meeting after the first round of rum.
You really ought to show up for skippers meetings, as it's a good gauge of the overall organization of the regatta:
Meyer's Rum - you'll be lucky if there are three bouys out there (somewhere)
Bacardi - There will be some geometric shape set up and a starting line vaguely perpendicular to the wind. There may or may not be a PRO boat
Captain Morgan - while a true course will be set up, few boats will actually be in the starting area on time. However, if CM 100 is served at the slippers meeting then no protests will be lodged or heard. PRO boat will make judgement calls erratically, mainly due to the excessive eye-patch wearing and knee-up stance
Mount Gay - good course set up, a few judge/safety boats and eveyrone wearing the same hat
Goslings Old Rum - your boat will be escorted to the starting area by your assigned "personal assistant" on a 30ft RIB with a personal chef and fully stocked bar. PRO boat will be in excess of 110 feet complete with fitness area and lap pool. Wind will be artificially enhanced to a perfect 15kts with shifts less than 10 degrees. All 90 boats will sail to their exact handicap and there will be a tie for the leader's board.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | Mike, I'm not a computer genius, but I think these are Bots and aren't even "listening". Rick's been pretty good about deleting them, but I start to wonder if there's a security setting or something that would inhibit them from even getting posted in the first place?
I'm sure there are a few geeks out there who know how all this works.... heck, they're probably the bot-developers!

Posts: 4,118 Northfield Mn | What is a SLIPPERS meeting?
Man, I'm out of the loop. Can't keep up with the new terms!
It's kinda like a skippers meeting, but its done on a phone while steering with your knee and hurdling down the highway at 60mph.
I'm boatless.

There is a version 7.6 of the UBB threads - but they're not doing development on this forum software anymore. Regardless, It's likely that this older version still has an option to turn on an option to require new registerees to type in a letter/number sequence on one of those fuzzy pictures in order to register a new user name. That alone should keep the bots out.

I have a UBB forum and every applicant must be personally approved by me. It is pretty easy to spot folks that do not fit our profile. It is also pretty easy to go in and remove any of those posts such as we have here.

Posts: 5,590 Naples, FL | is there a button on here somewhere to "report as spam"? Would that make it easier for you?
Of course, I'd report the whole drill thread as spam, but anyway....
