Unregistered | Hi all, have been doing some hot mozzie sailing on the lakes since getting back from Spinnaker States. Huge sail to Loch Sport 2 1/2 hours upwind in 20+ knot gusts, great fun Then Pete put on lunch for us, before sailing back with kite up and down at times in 43 minutes and that was with a capsize Then last weekend had 5 Mossies, Paper Tiger and visiting A class start 3 back to back windward leeward races in about 20 knots. Awesome kite rides, lapping in less than 10 minutes at times except when I had a swim (again) . Hope we get to sail again this weekend, can't wait for the nationals. | | | Re: Hot Mozzie Sailing

Posts: 416 | hey guys, well we have had some fun down at somers, 6 mossies out, starting in 20 knots. my bro keeping me on my toes, then the wind came in at 40knots even tho the race was abn it was on between bro and i, even tho he got around the top mark first on second lap i was bout 100 meters behind, but it pays to stay upright as bro pitch poled for a turtle, but my god it was hard to stay upright, as going dead down wind across the waves and still hung on for life.
Oh gary better watch out we are after you, muhahaha,

Unregistered | Nobody likes a well sailed Mozzie , other classes choose to think that they are the only ones that have improved their performance over the years, with the addition of modern looking rigs, square top mains, vertical stems etc, and in the case of the A's big bucks, for the latest hulls . They don't realise that Mossies have continued to improve the performance of hulls, rigs and sails, without changing the look of the class . Many sailors of other classes just expect the same speed as the 70's . Could be our new slogan, Mosquito Catamaran "The Racing Wolf in Sheeps Clothing" | | | Re: Hot Mozzie Sailing

Posts: 556 Somers, Westernport Bay, Victo... | I guess the improvements have been relative along with most other classes, new manufacturing materials and techniques, improved sail designs and maximizing the bouyancy whilst still staying inside the rules and template boundaries. The Mozzie of the 70's is a long way from where we are today but I suppose you could say that of many restricted class designs. If we didn't embrace new technologies we would all be sailing heavy "dinosaurs". Hang on !! I've got one of the 70s designs in the back yard waiting for a new deck. The bigtop Mozzie was trialed a few years ago but rejected by the assocaition for various reasons.

Unregistered | Hi Peter, I saw enough of his speed at the Paynesville on a borrowed boat and then again at Spin States at McCrae to know he will be a contender, just a matter of time on the boat. After just getting the mk1 and Masters trophies engraved from last year, I couldn't think of anything better than only taking one home this year, these young blokes are the future of the Mossie Class and open other young sailors eyes to the excitement of sailing Mossies, otherwise where just seen as a bunch of old blokes sailing old style boats. But don't worry I intend to make them work for the Title. | | |
