Posts: 120 | I've never seen anyone do it with a Goodall mast, down boy! Chris P and I did it a few years back at Tradewinds (and won)... Taylor was following us the entire time yelling that our mast was about to break... I think he just wanted us to slow down. Done properly, they can handle it. That said, we have also broken a mast doing it (okay so it was Chris and Dan... weighing 100kg each ;-). Officially I wouldn't recommend it.... Much like you aren't supposed to drive 200 Mph...... still can be fun though

Dear NACRA,
I'm sorry for questioning the wisdom of putting a stiff butt mast on a little light boat.
Thanks, Karl Brogger

Maybe if he were a Nacra dealer, dumping on a Nacra product?

Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | Maybe the infusion mast is not such a bad choice ? It is by no means a hobie tiger mast (and placed on the FX-one after being cut to length)

That's my fear is it'll be like the FXone. You're right its probably no where as stiff as the tiger section Could be just the same shape and a thinner wall? There is a lot voodoo that goes into extruding aluminium, so maybe a tweak in how its done yields a thinner wall with the same tooling.

Posts: 217 Palm Harbor, FL | An F16, is an F16, is an F16. Pete, I'm sure that is very true for the likes of you and me. I loose so much time from bad starts, bad tacks, and bad mark roundings, that I expect that the moderate gains from a particular design would be irrelevant, even if I did know how to tweak the rig to maximize those gains. :-)

Anything truly earth shattering in this new boat? If it's better, in what ways is it better?

Posts: 554 Boston, Ma | Well, I didn't get a chance to sail the boat, but did get to talk to Gunnar and Coen about it. They are very happy with the platform, but said the main needed some work which was hurting them in light breeze. Some very close racing amongst the Vipers and Nacras here in Thailand, should be great for the F16 class in general!
