I think, too, that once a boat is selected, they can count on a steady influx of orders and can realize some cost savings due to the number of orders. That will slow down once the Olympic fleet has boats and starts into a more gradual replacement cycle...so it probably makes sense that the price is low for the first prospective orders.

If you read the ISAF report only Hulls are coming out of Thailand! And pricing of both boats in this report are ex works AUS ore NED, so nothing is shipped from Thailand as complete boat!

ehm, I think the ISAF report is comparing oranges with oranges as all quotes are given when picking the boat up at door of the factory ex taxes or delivery and all agents assemble the boat locally.

Other then that, it is all a zero sum game. If nacra extrude theirs masts in NED then that will mean additional shipping costs to non-european customers as indeed will be the case the other way around.

Mind you the Superwing used by AHPC is fabricated in California USA and is shipped directly to the local agents and not via AUs.

Hi Wouter -

I don't think AHPC is using that California supplier anymore - I think I heard they'd gone to a new company. Not 100% sure.

It's both. My boat has an Aussie mast because we dropped a container of boats in Long Beach

I'm boatless.

People talk about this as if they're ready to line up and buy one. I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned this:

"ISAF will control allocation of first 100 boats."
and
"NACRA agree that ISAF will under contract control any subsequent price until November 2016."

I'd say that for the next year or so, you'd need to know somebody to get one of these.

.... maybe somebody did mention it, but my eyes glazed over reading the comments.

Its not both masts. Its an Australian produced mast. Used to be USA. The NACRA carbon stick is from CMI in thailand, same as their hulls. It was the first few that they've produced. Could lead to some teething problems. The Viper carbon stick is from france.

both Viper and Nacra can be smod and thus "laser" like. A few tweeks and the set ups can be standardized.
