This is ridiculous! there are enough major manufacturer's on the continent to organize charters!

I guess the other option is buy a boat there and sell it afterwards. That is hard to arrange and mega $$$

Have you spoken to Kringle about a Capricorn 2? Given they're the new kids on the block they probably want as many boats in the fleet as possible.

The option I found was 2500 euro ($3600) for a new Infusion MKII.... not happening on the student budget. Not sure if any US teams will be there, hoping Mike and Tripp can make it happen and improve on their top ten.

Ask Chris he may have a boat available for charter. There is one boat coming to the U.S. soon and he may have a couple boats available at the worlds. http://www.capricornsailing.com/
I'm not sure of the exact number of boats he plans on sending. The rig is similar to the infusion in mast section so sailing and tuning coming from the Nacra will be easy.

$3600 including sails? What's actual container cost looking like?

$3,600 isn't unreasaonble. I was budgeting for 3-4K before we pulled the plug.
Problem with the container is we would miss a large part of our season if not all of it to ship over there and back. Not to mention we don't have enough boats going to divide the costs to make it affordable.

The $3600 was including sails. Not completely unreasonable, just beyond the grad student budget. It was looking like a 5k per person commitment at the end of the day.

Didn't price a container because of losing the season like Todd mentioned above.

Numbers I ran were worse, closer to $10K (budgeting for 2014) but assumed buying of new sails for the event and a $4K container fee.

It is a bit scary how fast travel costs can escalate for major events. Tybee was actually very reasonable in comparison but avoiding charters/shipping helps!

$3600 seems about right.

I'm boatless.

That is almost the exact same amount for last year's Worlds, basically you are paying for one year of the boat's loss of value.
IMO buying and selling a one or two year old boat would be much cheaper in the end (but also a lot more hassle).

Buying and selling a boat would be great, especially if you can string a couple events together before selling it. Again, tough on the grad student budget because of the initial investment.

I'm hoping that if we take a year off and save, maybe we can make 2014 happen. If the 2015 Worlds end up going to Argentina it will likely be a Jan/Feb event and shipping boats becomes an option. Tuscany is going to be great, I hope they fill all 200 slots with a waiting list!

I would think that depends on the major... Rocket Science should generate a good living after you're done to pay off that F18 "student loan"...

A graduate degree in interpretive dance however, maybe not. Don't ask me how I know.

I'm merely an Ocean Engineer/Hydrodynamicist, although that does allow me to claim that sailing is "research"!

Jeff

I have a lightly used PSA Capricorn F-18 Belongs to the General Manager of PSA Chris Caldecoate. He was going to take this boat to the worlds but said if anyone wants it we can let it go at $18,000. We could ship it with the rest of our boats going to the worlds.
After the world you could ship it back and you can sell which ever boat you like least. You would have a 2012 boat for under $20,000 that way, and no time without a boat and a chance to race the worlds. Chris will be there at the worlds to help with rigging and tuning questions. His previous boat was a Infusion so he will have transition knowledge to share.

We may also have access to another Capricorn same condition. Boat can be seen here it is AUS 6 with the bow #22.
