Thanks for the dates Gordon.

We have had a mention on the Taipan forum and they are thinking of laying down the challenge to us. May not be such a bad idea.

Not so much "they" as me...

We both have the same issue come layday, a whole lot of tired sailors with bored kids. Why not inject some fun for the families with the added spice of an inter-class challenge.

HI all
as you will know Rye is a popular summer spot with camping
spots taken 12 month in advanced so you need to get in early.. they have arranged several unpowers sites in rosebud (the next town from rye) but these will be gone by late next week as they have a ballot for them
if you want a site contact mandy at the rosebud foreshore office on 03 59501011 mention gordon hyde/ rye yacht club and they will know what you are talking about.. leave it till too late and you will miss out as these sites will be gone by the end of next week…..

Hi all.

Are there any Qld/NSW members who are planning to attend the 2015/16 nats .

Hopefully there will be more than one Mossie from the Northern states .

Let me know and we could maybe organise accommodation, from Gordons advice it looks like we have to decide quite soon.

Mossies are still alive in Qld.

if people miss out, there are other options just camping on the foreshore grounds is ideal

Does that mean there is no camping available at Rye? We were hoping to camp close to the Rye Yacht Club rather than in Rosebud.

areas near rye will be booked by regulars each year and other sites are by ballot..you need to get in early. the rosebud option is the only one that the foreshore ranger has been able to arrange..and rosebud is only 5 mins down the road..and Mandy has said that that too will be gone soon... holiday homes in the area are another option but may be more expensive and would need to be book NOW as these will also be gone VERY Soon..

Just rang the Rosebud Foreshore Office... Mandy wasn't there and the person I spoke to knew nothing about any arrangement for Rye Yacht Club. She more or less said there was little hope of getting any site during the peak season. She also was unable to tell me when Mandy will be in the office.

I'll try again tomorrow!

The STAYZ website has holiday houses in the area.
Like this one which from the map appears to be right opposite the Yacht Club.
Charming and Coastal !

It's a matter of finding enough others to share a place like this with - to make it more economical. There is an advantage of course - getting to sleep in a real bed for the week.

This is why we like to hold titles at places where we can camp at the club - but it can't always be done unfortunately.

Hi All,

We have heard from a fellow RYC member that the Bayview Motel in Tootgarook (about 2km from the YC) has open reservations at very reasonable prices over the Nats dates.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible.

A revised NOR will be uploaded to the web page shortly, we have finally been able to locate a venue for the presentation on Saturday night, this will be held at the Rye Hotel the cost for entry went up by only $5 for Mk1 and $10 for Mk2 to cover this. the new venue will allow for a much bigger venue than the clubs limited upstairs area. look forward to see you at the nationals.

The "early-bird" entry fees for the Rye Nationals finish at the end of November so don't delay getting your entry in.

The entry form is here.

And the current list of entrants is here

Wow the entry list looks interesting, Spinnaker rigged Mossies out number other rigs. Also good entries of sloops, as there is bound to be a few more.

All you Cat Rig sailors had better hurry up and get your entries in, you might get away with not paying the late entry fee if youre lucky.

Also there are 3 sailors looking to borrow boats, all experienced, so if you can't make it, consider lending your Mossie to somebody else, youll get a warm and fuzzy feeling smile knowing you are helping to keep class numbers up and it may come back tuned up, going faster than when you handed it over grin

Let me know if you have a boat available and I will give you details for Mitch, Robbie or Michelle.

GET your entries in so we can confirm numbers with the club and suppliers

So they should be with all those guy's leaving their spinnakers in their sailboxes. I hope they don't get sad cry when the spinnakers blast past on the returns all week cool

But don't worry they can allways change their division when they see the forecast. wink

Maybe a new nickname for the skipper of the most pranked Mossie in the fleet. Trevor the Trophy Hunter? Surely he can't go without the spinnaker again?

But over on Facebook Mark has come up with "Trophy Toy" looks like a winner to me grin

Whilst thinking of Trophies and the Nats.

For those that where lucky enough to take a Perpetual Trophy home last Nats, don't forget to get them engraved and bring them along or organise somebody to bring them for you. From past experience it can be expensive and or embarrasing if you forget blush

Winners that come to mind are Peter Dunk, Mark Pfennig, Peter Nikitin, Sarah Floyd and Tom Luitjes.

Awesome grin didn't think of that, now to find a few people that aren't coming to lend their boats and get a few more spinnakers out of sail boxes. wink

I think Tim might be busy doing all that stuff he hasn't been able to do for the last few months whilst in England (even looked like a Pom last weekend white as grin )

There will be plenty of entry changes to come yet, so I think we will just have to be patient frown and wait until the 28th to see how it all washes up, but 36 boats + is now a realistic goal and fantastic for the class (does anybody know when Mossie last had that sort of number?) best I can see since 1999-2000 is 34 at Portarlington in 2010-11 smirk

Interesting to look at entry number in that time period, you can see the class has been building cool

One definite change I can announce is that Robbie Lovig will now be sailing in the Spinnaker division cool on Ian's boat 1805 (so thats one less Mk1 frown but one extra spinnaker smile ) thanks very much to Ian (Garb) for being so generous smile .

But please don't let my enthusiasm for the Spinnaker class, upset anybody. All that matters is that we get lots of Mossies on the water with people sailing them however the enjoy them cool 36 boats or more would be fantastic grin, remember there are still experienced cat sailors looking to borrow Mossie's, so beg borrow or steal crazy any Mossie's that aren't being used and let us know they are available.

Hey there,

1816 is sitting on its trailer in Brisbane.

The bloke who drives it will be away otherwise he would be driving down to sail this year.

If someone wants to come and get it to sail, I could be OK with that.

Apologies for the distance involved.

Hi,

Will check with Nic and Brett about doubling, not sure if their trailers are set up though.

Sort of guessed when Matt said it was for sale if I did not grab it straight away it would be gone within the week.

Had heard a few rumblings from Phil when I collected it.

Wondered if I would make it out of town.....

Only 12 Sloops so far? Pfffff... that's pretty poor but I'm sure we can get to 15.

It's all happening this is going to be the biggest Mosquito Nats for at least 16 years. smile

Robbie and Michelle have both been loaned Spinnaker Mossie's, so it will be interesting to see how they go adapting from the Olympic Nacra 17. eek

Then a old/young Mossie sailor is making a comeback, Mitchell Meade (ex 1747) has just bought Spin Mossie (Faye Hulls) 1750 (originaly a Bob Wilson "Bonnie"). cool

The Spin fleet is really hotting up crazy could be 13. cool

I am sure Tim could fix that so that we can see all of the entries.

All the entries are there. It's just that they haven't all entered. Some will leave it till they get there.

I reckon we can make 40 entries, with the boats not yet entered that do turn up most of the time plus the chance of some surprise entries, its possible. shocked

Come on everybody, think of how you can get another Mossie to the Nats at Rye and let's make it the biggest Nationals since the 80's? crazy

current entries on my list have us at 38 with another rye boat coming on board today, with a good mix of older timber boats aiming for the heavy weight trophy. there should be some interesting racing done at the other end of the fleet this year..

Don't let a lack of accommodation stop you going to Rye!

The Lake Bonney contingent have a spare Queen bedroom available for anyone interested. Easy walking distance to the club. Contact the Thomas' on . . Oh four five seven, eight seven one, zero zero eight for more details.

See you all next week!

Steve

Keep the hospitality and entries coming, to anybody that hasn't been before, Mossie Nats are the best fun, lots of serious racing on the water and plenty of serious socialising after racing wink.

To last years winners don't forget the perpetual trophies. No excuses are allowed for forgetting trophies, except of course the "Old Farts" trophy, as all winners are old enough to have failing memories, this trophy is forgotten pretty much every year and has already been forgotten this year by Peter N, but thanks to some last minute phone calls, it will be available to pass on to a new dementia sufferer this year blush .

"Still Bitten" will be hitting the road tomorrow (with detours via Family gatherings) to arrive at Rye 27th. See you all on the 27-28th, can't wait, just 5 sleeps till racing starts. grin
