Posts: 1,252 California | Last season on O.C. (Fox) it was Seth and a Hobie 20. On Summerland (WB) they own a Hobie Getaway and soon... Hobie Waves racing. Whats next? Spongebob The Movie! Opening November 17th. We haven't seen it yet, but they used a Hobie Getaway in a scene. I think Spongebob gets bumped off of a bouy or something. | | | Re: Hobies in the movies

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | Don't forget about "Jaws 2". I still have nightmares about that. Last weekend, while we were waiting for the wind to fill in...Chris (crew extraordinaire) looked at me and said "waaaait a minute...this looks just like that scene in Jaws!". Good thing we were on a lake.

Talking about jaws, this is what a movies theater ones did to celibrate it 5th anniversery (?) or something.
The theater was right next to a man made pond and one of its walls was facing towards it.
So the hung a big white screen of the side and arranged for alot of old inner tires to act as seats for the viewer. One evening in the summer the customers showed up in bathing suits and watch the movie jaws from floating around on the tubes with the feet hanging overboard in the water.
Now, I'm sure that this made for extra emotions while watching the movies no matter how many times you say to yourself that is it just a movie !

Posts: 805 Gainesville, FL 32607 USA | Wouter- The movie/TV industry calls this "Product Placement", and if the product is to be stupidly abused as in JAWS you choose dead boats like a Sizzler and a Sol Cat.
So was there a diabolical Dutchman with a scuba tank and a rubber back fin hired to liven up the pond movie? (We cannot do this in the USA any more because of loss of freedom due to the #%^&* lawyers). But Product Placement is alive and well, and has a long history. If you ever see old black and white US cinemas of the 1930s, everyone was continuously lighting up cigarettes. This new product- coffin nails- were pushed into popularity by the movie industries, and then World War II by the tobacco industry who hooked a generation of American GIs when they were busy liberating Holland and France.
