i have a 32ft solaris cat and am wanting to make her faster , over 7 years i have had reasonable success in doing this but i feel there.s more to come. i have extended the hulls by 3 ft aft, fitted folding props, 2 blade , just had a new main with 20% bigger roach, bigger jib ,slight mast rake, my next idea is to extend the bows 2 ft to counteract the bows down tendecy when fully powered up (since aft extensions were done),give 5 degs aft rake to mast to improve upwind performance or just try to find an outremer owner looking to trade down???all ideas would be most welcome , thanks ,all, grafozz

I once had a Solaris 42 which was a motorsailor and there was no way to soup it up.
What does this boat look like? Any pictures?
Thanks
Rick

Rick,

Not to hijack the thread, but didn't you own a Morgan at one point? I think I remember reading that on some thread a long time ago. We just bought a Morgan 35.

Naw, I had an Irwin 38. We wanted a Morgan Outhouse (oops! Out Islander) but they were a lot more money. Both dogs, but pretty roomy.

Actually, we had an Irwin 37, and we had wanted a Morgan 42. At that time we needed a cruising liveaboard boat with a lot of room in it.

The Morgan 35 is a very nice boat. As I recall, I think they have both a cruising and a racing version of that model.

Oh, it was an Irwin.

I think this is the racing version. It is a centerboard model. I think the cruiser has a fixed keel. I presently have the mast down because I'm replacing the step. Can't wait to sail it down to the Keys! I also was able to get ahold of Charley Morgan, who gave me some good information on the boat. It is a 1970 model, and in great shape!

Fred,
I could be wrong, but I think that is the model (not necessarily that year) that Jamie Livingston's parents used to have at Miami Yacht Club.

Jamie Livingston? Is he on this site? I'd love to talk to anyone who has this boat. Or even maybe meet the original owners. I'm sure they'd be glad to see their boat still afloat, and in the process of getting an almost complete refit. I'll search for Jamie on this site.

(and sorry grafozz for the complete hijack of this thread!)

Thanks,
