Hi Folks,
I am planning on getting an enclosed trailer for moving 3 cats, with a bit of storage in the front. Does anyone have any pictures of similar trailers? Any info or tips on how to build it? Is there anyone else out there who has one of these?

Nigel Pitt in Georgia at one time was toting two inside and one on the top!! Maybe someone has some pictures of his rig.

I can get some pictures of Nigel's rig this weekend - I might have to sneak around 'cause that pesky Brit can be a bit cagey sometimes!

He has an internal rack system that you load a cat on and hoist it up to the ceiling inside the trailer. You can then load a second cat underneath the first, a golf cart, or even a mini cooper. Cradles on the roof allow a third cat to go up top and all the masts go on the roof.

Unless you are loading "A" Cats, you will be wider than the 8'6" allowed. Solutions are to break down the boats, or just hope you will not get caught. That could prove to be one expensive fine, not to mention having to hire a commercial truck driver to move your now impounded rig.

ummm, how about a permit? They are very easy to get.

They are not that easy to get.., and each state you drive through will require one, except Ohio
And they are only good for one trip on specified highways.
Used to be in the heavy machinery trucking business and we had a department devoted to nothing but acquiring oversize permits.

In Ontario they are easy to get, and they are good for the whole calender year.

I hate trailering something that sticks out on either side of the car/truck. My idea was to turn the boats on their sides and slide them in. You have a lot more room to go up vs across.

Just make sure they are adequately supported - letting the outside of the bottom hull take all the bounce loads may not be a good thing...

Annual Permits
An annual permit is valid for 12 months from the date of issue on all [color:"red"] King's [/color] highways. The annual permit also allows travel on Highway 407 ETR provided that the commercial vehicle has a valid transponder. The maximum dimensions permitted on an annual permit are as follows:

Single vehicle:
length 12.50 m, including a maximum rear overhang of 4.65 m
weight as per the Highway Traffic Act
Combination vehicles:
length 25 m, including a maximum rear overhang of 4.65 m
to obtain overweight privileges up to 63,500 kg, contact an MTO office
Note: rear overhang may be greater than 4.65 m with the Weight & Load Engineer's approval.
Width:
3.70 m on two lane highways and 3.85 m on multi-lane highways (standard for both single and combination vehicles)
Height:
4.26 m (standard for both single and combination vehicles)

I agree you need to support the boat so that loads dont end up on on side of the hull.

You could hang the hulls on the sides of the trailer, making some nice wide, padded cradles would be easy.

Or if you wanted to get fancy you could create a sliding support system that would accept the boat and help tip it 90 deg and then slide in.
