In 2006, Fleet 111 is considering partnering with the Rudder Club to host our Regatta on the St. Johns River. I know for most of us, sailing in the ocean may be preferred to sailing in the River, however, the expenses and logistics of the St. Augustine location are making it increasingly difficult for Fleet 111 to support the regatta.

We would also like to move the date of the Regatta to later in the year when there is more wind on the river and the summer hurricanes have hopefully slowed down. We are looking at sometime in October, and may also consider Labor Day weekend.

We would like to have some feedback for this venue time/place change so we can move forward with the planning and - - Thanks for supporting Fleet 111 and attending
our Regattas in previous years.

John Botterbusch
Commodore, Fleet 111

The Rudder Club runs a regatta already during Labor Day weekend. Anyone is welcome to attend Rudder Club regattas, so Fleet 111 could piggy back on that regatta. The only thing is that they need to know up front so they can buy trophies. Because there are few Hobie sailors at the Rudder Club anymore, it would be difficult to get the club to sponsor a separate regatta for Hobies or any non-native fleet. Not impossible, just difficult. I would be willing to help out in any way if you decide you would like to do something at the Rudder Club.

Since I'm right up the street from the Rudder Club now, I'd be willing to pitch in as well. I've stopped by the club a couple of times to talk about membership and, indeed, I was told that the multihull fleet has moved on.

That's too bad. Did they move to somewhere else, or did the fleet just die altogether?

Dave Carlson can talk more about this - he told me the A cats from the Rudder Club are sailing on a lake near Gainesville now.

Rob, John, Thanks for your response; in fact, we have been discussing this idea with Rich
Brew from the Rudder Club. We are putting together a proposal for the Rudder Club to
possibly co-host the Labor Day Regatta. Hopefully we can post some details soon.
So John, I'll put you down for - Race Committee???

IIRC Catfest in Charlotte is typically labor day weekend.

How far is "Right down the street"? I literally live across the street from the Rudder Club.

As far as the fleet moving on, Dave is correct. We had 3 of the 6 A Class sailors based at the Rudder Club and the other 3 (now 4?) in the Gainesville area. One of the Jacksonville sailors moved to Ocala, another sold their boat and the 3rd (me) got involved with flight training in 2005. So, the fleet isn't gone, it is hibernating. The one Jacksonville A Cat sailor who sold his boat has been talking about buying an A2

Errr - I'd rather sail it. I can do NOR, SIs and scoring if you want.
