Posts: 1,121 Eastern NC, USA | They are are pretty creative with the naming scheme. I saw an "A" class group on ISAF's website, but nothing on the others. Obviously, the designations refer to box rules/formula rules. Is there a short answer to how the classes differ?

Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | Hey, I actually wrote that for Wikipedia ! There wasn't a A-cat entry there yet, A-cat sailors were probably busy doing other stuff, so I decided to make it for them. It is quite a write-up as well, if I say so myself. You see, I'm not such a bad guy afterall. Wouter

Posts: 115 | That is impressive. Not surprising that the biggest class is also the most affordable. Just look at the Laser as another example. Not the most exciting boat but the competition is great and the price is right. I’ve been thinking for a while now about getting a H16 to supplement my regatta schedule. Maybe its time. It has to be good way to work on big fleet tactics for the upcoming Worlds. Do it. Nothing will make you a better all around sailor than racing against a large competitive fleet of equal boats. It's hard to beat the 16 for that. | | | Re: A class: the most international catamaran clas

Posts: 334 Thunder Bay ON CAN | Thanks catfan for the up to date summary of the A Cat builders etc, herd to find that info in one place.
Speaking of the H-16 class - I took a look at the results from the Hobie Mid Winters West just held last weekend. They had 39 H-16s racing in the A,B & C fleets combined. I did not count any boats that showed but were DNC. All of these teams had to drive to San Felipe Mx.
Now THATS impressive!!
What drives these kind of numbers? I can think of a few right off the bat.
Relatively (very) inexpensive to race, tow and maintane. Great One Disgn racing. Relatively light weight. Relatively simple rig and platform. At the same time as the Hobie MWW was on there was a regatta in Australia that attracted 35+ hobie 16,s.Along with one in South Africa, and the weekend before a major hobie 16 regatta in the Philippines, which attracted a international field of 25+ boats. Not too many designs (beside the Laser)could span the globe like that on a given weekend. | | | Re: A class: the most international catamaran clas

Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | b) the English Stealthmarine announced in 2004 the launch of a new A class cat fitted with a revolutionary canting rig; the result evidently came short of expectations since the info was cancelled from Stealthmarine's web site. I suspect that only the prototype was built. Stealth have a set of A class Moulds. I don't know if a prototype was built or not. I may be using them for my New boat when I get the finance in place.
