It looks as though the locking mechanism on the casting is not locked into the other casting, and the arm is bungeed to the other arm to keep them in the down position. Seems like you could get impaled by those upper arms that are sticking up 3-4 inches in a flip or pitchpole. Is that right?

Well the bungee may helps to keep the rudderdown, but the they are actually locked down by a plastic nut and the opposite on the casting
Ah, so the "wooden" A's are carbon sandwich with a layer of veneer. I am a bit disappointed, as I was hoping somebody out there was busy building competitive wooden A's
