If it's not a dodgy main which hasn't got all the right bits on it, or a pulley which doesn't look fit for the purpose they also have a Spi pole which snaps quite easy.
Sounds to me that the Blade is not all it's cracked up to be. What next leaky hulls and failing masts?

One broken pole, one wearing pulley, one unfinished main that was built by a sub-contractor....I'd say that is a reason to stop production immediately. You are an butt for making such irresponsible statements.

Stopping production is a little extreme, as is being called an butt. You lot seem to have a very short memory as it wasn't that long the Stealth was called a good entry level F16. The responses to that thread weren't quite so personal 'fact or fiction' so you Blade sailors should get your heads out of your transomes and chill out a little.

Jeez, get a grip and stop walking around with a chip on your shoulder. You are blowing things out of all proportions.

In a formula class (or, for that matter, even a normal one-design class), why would anybody blame the manufacturer for things that go wrong with peripheral things on the boat?

The manufacturer is manufacturing the platform, the basic boat. As far as I am concerned, it is up to the buyer of the boat to decide what he wants to do to accessorize the boat with mast and boom and sails and blocks and lines.

Unfortunately, many of us have gotten spoiled with the Hobie (and Vanguard) concept of getting a complete boat ready to sail right out of the box, so we expect to have all that stuff on the boat when we get it.

The great thing about a true one-design class or a formula class is that you can just buy the stripped-down platform and then add all the components from other sources (or make them ourselves).

If you are unable to research and add all the other stuff yourself, you should not complain to the manufacturer of the platform when you wanted a complete, ready-to-sail boat and he was nice enough to give it to you, and then you decide you don't like the mast or sail or the blocks or the lines or if something breaks or whatever.

If you want a complete boat out of the box, get a Hobie or a Laser or a 420 or 49er or ..... Then you don't have a choice about what to use.

I have not heard about any problems with the Vectorworks Blade platform, and that is what they build. Right?

Mark, I think you missed my smiley. I did not mind one bit your post and I actually took it as a joke.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about, there is no hope for the F16 class to build and survive. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

You are right! There is no hope for us! We are all doomed to death by lonely sailing! All Blade production must stop, same goes for Taipans, Stealths, all home builds everything!!

Arm all the arms services from around the world and seize each every F16 ever made or sailed! all must be destroyed!

OH NO!

Ladies and gentlemen,

If you all know when a platform or boat is build in the very beginning there is always a change that something is build which can break, the reason is that you have to make some choices in available materials and calculations, there are also some things you can not calculate but you have to use your experience. In all new boats there are some small errors in the beginning, it happened with Hobie, Nacra, other F18's etc etc etc. But underway you find out what will be the best solution for the problems. If you want to prevent this you build everything much to heavy and the F16 class is boat where you have to work on the limit and to find that limit will cost some errors sometime, specially when you building things by your self or purchase it somewhere else.
My main issue in this response is that most of the people looking on this part of the forum are F16 sailors and i can not imagine that we as F16 class want to anger about things and put fingers to each other because of the type of boat you have. The whole spirit should be, to get the F16 class to a higher level, that we try to help each other to get good and strong boats but build on the limit of the materials.
It is not difficult to break something but it takes a lot more effort to build something good so please let do this.

Best regards,

Hans Klok
