Posts: 3,348 | Would you drive your boat across the continent for this race? Maybe. I'm trying to schedule a trip to Califorina for a F16 regatta. It remains to be seen whether or not I'll make it. But your point is well made. How about some other format, like Texel. | | | Re: National "Open" Champsionship

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | How about Spring Fever or Catfight! I think Texas has a big event that would work as well. I know San Diego hosts a Catfight regatta.
The events are regional with good parties ... its just a matter of marketing what these organizations already do!
The philosophy should be... Its about the sailor.... no matter what ride he is on!

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Wow!.... are you saying you will change the format of tradewinds to run an open class championship, like Catfight or Spring Fever
I have been trying to persuade you to do that for years. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Posts: 1,121 Eastern NC, USA | Mark, are these regattas one start with overall scoring PLUS fleet scoring inside the totals?
Seems like the NAMSA stuff I went to in the 80's in Pcola were like that, but I was young then and I've burned a lot of brain cells since.

Posts: 3,116 Annapolis, MD | Cat Fight has starts with similar boats which allow for good handicappng EG Spinaker Class Single handed.
Within the start they score it overall on handicap and then by class. Trophies awarded in all of the groups.
Spring Fever changed last year to something similar. Jamie Diamond scored it and can tell you more.
Tradewinds has been one design... lots of seperate starts... leftovers into open. some starts combined but not scored

There're a couple, actually. Hobie Mid-Americas, held each summer at Lake Texoma, has the capability and the capacity, but to the best of my knowledge went Hobie-centric several years ago. The other option is Texas Cat Championships, which is run as a one-start, run-what-you-brung pure handicap regatta. We also broke out one-design champions and the Area F Alter Cup competitors. It was in October this past year, but the date is not yet firm for 2007. Palacios, TX is on the coast, two hours each from Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and Corpus.

Posts: 829 Charleston, SC | You don't have time to go to races, but you are retired and post on catsailor all day? Something smells fishy... <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
I'll see you at Tradewinds, Tiki, where I'll introduce you to Key Sailing Drinks (and yes, Drink is capitalized!)
