Look a few posts up - there's a picture of the "anti-fouling" loop that you need.

Posts: 404 Chattanooga, TN | Oh, I think I got it now. I was thinking that the halyard ran on top of the "thingy" and couldn't figure out how that would help. Chalk it up to being a newbie. Thanks, I will have to suggest we put on our boat.

Posts: 404 Chattanooga, TN | You know guys-I was serious-I have only been crewing for a year now so I'm still a little slow at figuring out things. I think the bungee cord is a great idea too. Any thing to make my job pulling that halyard easier is greatly appreciated.-(If you ever meet me in person you will know what I am talking about)

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | I've seen a lot of boats with bungee run from the end of the spreaders to the shrouds, which I assume serves the same purpose.
Paul I've been using the bunji tied from the tip of the spreader to the shroud - it works great, but it's a bit of a pain to rig. I think I'm going to go with a loop setup like John's "thingy".

Paul That is to stop the trap wires catching behind the spreader. We run both the loop as pictured earlier as well as the bungie. | | | Re: F18 question

Paul On the Tiger it's not so much a problem with the spi but the trap lines getting snagged behind the spreaders which is why we run the bungee chord. Tiger Mike | | | Re: F18 question

Posts: 118 St. Louis, MO | Wouldn't a bungee from the spreader to the shrouds serve to limit mast rotation though??? I would think in light wind especially that would be a bit of a problem??

Nah, use a small diameter bunji (1/8") and tie it loosely so that it only gets slightly snug when the mast is rotated away from the shroud. Works fine. I've never had a problem with my trap wires getting hung on the spreaders on the Nacras - but we did experience that a bit with the Cap during Tradewinds. Easy fix though.

Posts: 3,293 Long Beach, California | The issue on the Cap was the fork at the top of the diamond wires. I'd reminded myself about a dozen times to tape those. The bungee trick would not have prevented it. Rigging tape on there now.

Yes, that is why its use has largely been abandonned again. At least by racers overhere. Wouter
