Thats a shame Gary. I was having an idle thought the other day about hull shapes and I remembered I used to swap rigs on boats, eg 16foot skiff rig on a cherub, that sort of stuff. Altered would be an ideal test platform to fit a Mozzy rig to and with you racing it against other Mozzies we could get some good data, ever been tempted to try it?

Hi Darryn,

"Altered" has been called a Mutant Mossie but that would be ridiculous. It would probably be slower than a Mossie as hulls are heavier, would be awesome though in 20 kts. plus upwind as all that width would make it very easy to handle. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Have allways wondered more the other way, putting my rig on Mossie Hulls <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />, that would be interesting, would probably have to make platform wider though. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Regards Gary. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Ben, its the wheels that I am having the trouble with. I cant find any that have a large enough axle to hold the weight so far away from the hub centre.

I was trying to put the wheels under the tramp rather than on the outside to minimise the total length (width) of the rollers for transport.

Hi Trevor

The wheels Ive got to build rollers are about (guessing) 250mm in diameter and about 150mm wide, you can get them from disposal stores and engineering supply stores, they have a hard plastic rim, and metal bearing arrangement, if you knock out/punch out the bearing, this leaves about a 50mm hole with the slight taper in the middle, file the taper down flat, so a piece of 50mm aluminium tube can be pushed through, a couple of sleeves each side to hold the wheel in the one place and attach the cradles, most of these type (that I have seen) have wheels on the inside, but I've seen one with them on the outside.

PS the cheapest Ive seen the same wheels as I have is $40 at a market.

The axle will be 48mm alloy we are using pvc bushes.
Prob make a fiber glass hull support with the wheels inside the hulls.
getting the wheels for about $80

Just a quick reminder to all those attending the state titles, if you haven't put your entry in yet you can do so on Saturday morning at the yacht club. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Registration is between 8:00 and 10:00 am. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you intend to do so don't forget your AYF membership number and your insurance policy number. I'd hate for anyone to forget these important details or anything else like rudders, mainsheets, trapeze harnesses, life jackets, hats, tents etc. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Everything ready to go for the long haul south. Should be a very interesting excursion for Ben and myself.

Hoping to get to the club by hopefully around the 2100 friday night if all goes well.

It will be good to finally meet all the victorian sailors we talk to through the forum.

Catch you all with my bath tub on saturday
regards
William

I think I might get there about 6 to 7pm, depending on Melbourne traffic. Forecast looks interesting.
Saturday
East to northeasterly wind to about 10 knots tending northerly at 10 to 15 knots
during the morning then locally reaching 20 knots in the afternoon. A southwest
to southerly change at 20 to 25 knots during the evening. Waves around half a
metre, rising to 1 to 1.5 metres later in the day.

Sunday
Southwesterly winds mainly 20 to 25 knots but locally reaching 30 knots, tending
more southerly during the day then easing to 15 to 20 knots towards evening.
Waves 1 to 2 metres.

Monday
South to southeasterly winds mainly 15 to 20 knots. Waves averaging 1 metre.

Hi all,

Liked to say what an awesum time I had down at somers.
Thanks to everyone for putting on an excellent regatta and for making Ben and myself very welcomed(made us feel like regulars). One last thanks to everyone who gave us a hand in setting up the boats and giving us a few pointers on how to get the boat working well (my boat felt real nice on the third race).
Talked to my wife and it looks like its all systems go in getting a newer boat so hopefully you might see us again at the nats and state titles.

Cheers
William

Will and Ben,

Great to see you at the state titles. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

The full report is listed on the VMCA website
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mosquito/

Your vast improvement between race 1 and 2 gave me quite a shock. You should really be able to mix it up with the other cats a Kurnell from now on. Just imagine what you can do with new Mozzies.

Hope you can come back this way next year for the nationals and trust that the trailer held together all the way home.

Regards,

Peter

Hi Pete,
Ive already discussed with the missus about future races in Vic. and its looking like the sauna sail might be the next regatta.
Im thinking I might have holidays then as well just need the regatta dates.
As for the trailor it seemed to hold up well.

Hi everyone,

Had an excellent weekend, and even very nearly didnt come last in some races! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> I have some video and far off blurry pictures from the weekend so I will try to get something up soon.

A big positive has come from breaking my rudders on Sunday - I now have permission to get some shiny new 'glass jobbies... Mmmm Boyer rudders... as Homer would say <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Trevor,

Sorry I just didn't get a chance to have a good look at "Another Toy".

With all the activity on the water, on the beach, around the yard and in the Yacht club I just found it too hard to get a good look around for good ideas. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

That's why we need a training weekend like the one last September at Hazelwood. That way we can think up all sorts of new ideas and toss them around. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Regards,

Peter
