Hi- I have seen pictures of Nacra wings for the 5.8/6.0, and would like to make my own. Does anyone here have experience doing this? I would like to just make a simple trapezing rail (not sitting) that either plugs into the crossbars, or bolts on top, similar to the Fx-1/Tiger/Fox wings here: Euro wings
I bought one of the last sets from Performance about 8 years ago. They had a rubbery plastic plug that fit into the beams and you would insert the wings and keep them in with a pin. Apparently, the company that made the plugs doubled the price, which made them too expensive to produce. The kit was like $1500 at the time. I had them on my P18-2 and thought they were great. I've been thinking about building a set of the sport wings (like Hobie Europe makes) for my Supercat.
I don't have close up pictures, but they looked a lot like the Hobie ones in the link at the start of the thread. The beam inserts (or plugs) just had a hole in them and the wings were inserted about a foot into the beams. The material was like a rubbery plastic, so it didn't give the wings a hard edge to rest on.
I just had a Prindle 16 where someone had some wings made in the similar fashion. There wasn't a plug, they just inserted into the end caps. The previous owner had a shop in the Outer Banks make the wings--the shop made outriggers for big fishing boats, so they had the tools to properly bend the wings. They even wlded on fishing pole holders!!
You can see where he had to move the bolt a little to get the wings to fit. They were held in with pins on the front of the beams and just slid into the beams through the end caps. That made a serious pressure point where they sat in the hole of the end caps!
The diameter of the Performance wings was a little smaller, so I didn't have to move the bolts on my 18-2.
Last fall I was looking at a NACRA 6.0 and had called the Performance Sports to find out about getting wings for it. I was told they would make them, but I would need to order ten pair. But then again, they really didn't sound to enthusiastic about doing it.

My experience is that Performance does not get too enthusiastic about doing much of anything. Rumor now is that they are no longer going to stock any parts so I guess that anytime you need something you will have to order ten to get it made.
